I had my TRD Sport checked out at the dealer a couple weeks ago. They found it a quart low. Shifts great now. No "Placebo" effects here. The difference is night and day.

Took mine in today. Not really experiencing the problems described here (except 5th/6th), but told them delay in R to D. They checked ATF, diffs and transfer, and tightened some bolts. All found to be in spec:

    Nice truck... wheels are great..!!

Did the "check" cost you, or did they do it for free..??

I doubt they actually checked the tranny fluid... another TechStream check...????

I hope they did a proper check for you..

Free as shown in pic. Master tech did it. Advisor also knew they had to cool it. Report says they cooled it to spec and checked it, so they better have…..

Did mine this morning. About a quarter of a quart low. Drives a bit smoother, unless it's just a placebo.

About a month ago I checked mine and topped it off. It took about 3/4 qt. I also have the diff whine so I took it in this Friday and had them check all fluids. At first they said they weren't allowed to check any of it. I told them i wasn't going to pick it up. So they did it and even stapled the correct proceedures. All were fine except they said the AT fluid was overfilled. Even after I initially added fluid there was no change. After they drained out the ATF I saw no difference. So, I disconnected the battery after I got home and it still made no difference. My mpg seems to be better though. I got 25.7 going in to work today. I usually get 21-22. This whole thing is somewhat of a joke. At least I got a dealer report saying it was at the proper level. The report did not say it was over filled. That was a verbal from the service advisor. I'm thinking this is all about software.

Yep, I have no doubt it's just mapping etc. Many of us got going on the fluid issue when Toyota just did a bad job matching the engine tranny mapping combo.

I too think its just mapping that causes most of our issues, but low fluid over the life of the tranny will cause issues.

Alrighty folks, here it is. 3/4 qt. low! Glad I was persistent with my dealership because it paid off. I highly advise if you have a tow package, get it checked regardless if you do or don't have signs of issues. You don't want a bigger problem down the road.

My truck is coming in 2 weeks and I got the tow package.

Is it reasonable to ask the dealer to check it during PDI? I'm expecting they'll oppose, so I'm willing to just pay them out of pocket for that peace of mind. Anyone know how much that'll cost?

At first I told them I would pay if the shop foreman denied to manually check. Service writer quoted around $160 labor and parts. Luckily they agreed to check it based on feedback they've been hearing for free.

It's completely reasonable to have them check it. Not with a scan tool, but with the correct process gearcruncher has posted here and other threads. He has a PDF in this thread you should print and take with you to the dealership to verify their process. Be courteous, but insistent. It's well worth the trouble especially since you haven't driven it off the lot. Print the screen shot I posted a few posts up as your proof of this being an issue.

Dropping it off tonight so they have it cooled down for the morning. I was told that they would completely drain the trans then refill to correct level.
Yeah, not paying for the rental.... Brand new, 3 weeks old, I should not have to pay for anything.
Hope this is the final fix, without any placebo effect...
