Having transmission issues with my 2016 Tacoma TRD Sport 4x4, Had new Trans. put in already with only 1500 miles. And still having issues with it. When its cold in the mornings drops out of drive then slams into gear.
Other problems are, it will idle irradically in drive and it lunges forward, and when in traffic forget it. It can't seem to find the right gear to maintain and is constantly shifting up and down, also noticed vibration when in idle.
Any body else with similar issues?

Doesn't that TSB say it relates to the 6 cylinder automatic, and not the 4?

Disregard, I just save the designation on the last page and it is indeed the 4cyl.

    Thanks for posting.

This ^. This shifting issue may, indeed, related to software issue. I had a Honda where it would make a loud (I meant loud) clunking sound when shifting to R from P on an incline/uphill. It still does it every time. However, it drove fine and no sign of transmission damage, and etc. I had 83,000+ miles on it until a large box delivery truck finished her from behind.

Got my truck back home from dealer. Tech could not verify my Concern. But since I Kow the advisor and tech I was able to watch my friend check the fluid level and it was correct. Sucks they couldn't verify but atleast my issue is documented. And I'll see what happens from here.

Just a bit of advice, I live where you do. Don't go to Huntsville to have that truck serviced. Go to Decatur. I got stories about the service department of that dealership that will make your jaw drop. They are the last place I would recommend to anyone.

I've had the same issue with the dealer, what's worse is that they lie to you and think you're misinformed. This dealer says they CAN replicate the issue, but that they can't check without permission from corporate Toyota. As in leaving pissed off, the service adviser tells me it WAS checked and was good. I had just finished road testing with the service manager. To make things worse, I heard the tech tell the service adviser that there wasn't enough time to check it and that he ran a diagnostic and it wasn't throwing any codes. I called the dealership I bought it from about an hour and a half away and they said bring it in and they would check it. They did say it would be about 5 hours, but that I can deal with. I attached my service ticket from the first dealer for shits and giggles

    Yep. 1/2 quart low.
TRD OR 4X4 with tow pkg.
Received delivery today and told them I wasn't signing or test driving anything until I was allowed to watch them check ATF level. Slipped the tech $20 and thanked him profusely. He wasn't familiar with the issue, but now he is, and was impressed I was correct. I'll contribute to the poll now.

Had mine checked today. When I asked the tech how much was added he told me 1.5 quarts. I'm not sure if that amount is true or not but I can say it drives smoother now. They were familiar with the possibility as they had another come in last week for too much fluid. That's what they said at least. Don't know if it truly was too full or someone heard about this and decided to just add some them self.

The poll is currently 36:18, or 2:1 low on ATF.

Why not ask them to, or make them, check the ATF level, if you have to, especially if you've already agreed on a price and they've ordered it for you.
Also, be nice to the tech. He's probably never heard of this issue, and tip$ go a long way. Watch him do it once ATF is in temp. range, and look to see if any fluid drips out when he pulls the plug. Mine didn't drip a single drop, and was at 109'F. He was shocked, and then smiled; probably because they all thought I was full of it. (I'll check the U-bolts and differential fluid myself.)

ATF started at 170'F. Tech. lifted the truck and put a fan right up against and blowing directly on the transmission. We watched the temp. slowly fall, and in about 30-45 min. the whole process was complete.

Also something interesting I learned from the tech. is that all trucks are lifted and run for 5 hours, without putting any miles on them, before being shipped from the manufacturer. This is how they test them without driving them, to ensure they are working properly. Tech. said no need to worry about a break in period. Just drive normal and the computer will learn and adapt to your style and habits...

Finally, mine came in after just one week of being special ordered. They quoted me 4-6 weeks with no promises.
I put $500 on 2/13 and picked it up today! Keep hope alive. It may be sooner than you think.

I had an issue in the early morning.

Turn on the truck, waited 3 minutes while I set my GPS and connected my phone. I'm in California so the temperature is 50° F in the mornings right now.

After, I would drop my truck traight to reverse and slowly remove my foot of the brake and the transmission would slip in and out without pressing on the gas.

This morning I added 2/3 of a quart and God does it drive 1000x better.

No more transmission slips, and the down/up shifts are really smooth.

Update: My brother works in the service department at a toyota dealer. I made him get me a quart of Toyota Genuine ATF WS. So I'm not mixing different fluids, hopefully.
Cost him $6.75. Cheaper than driving out to the dealer and having them "check" it. Overall time took me 20 minutes. Shorter than me driving up to the dealer.

So Toyota idles 1000 trucks for 5 hours every day. I don't think so. Heavy dose of bullshit that tech is feeding you.

We are still trying to figure out why this happened . Yes we blame the dealers as they are the last line of defense but what is the root cause ?
Happened to some of the 2nd gen trucks both 2 wheel drive and 4x4 with tow package .
Do not wait for lights to pop up on the dash . If you are feeling delayed shifting , get it fixed immediately .
Do not wait for the transmission temperature light to illuminate . You have completely cooked your fluid by then and probably done some nasty damage to your transmission .
Reports are coming in that low transmission fluid can be found on both 2016 4x4 trucks with the tow package and 2 wheel drive trucks without tow package .
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...be-low-on-fluid-directly-from-factory.405642/
Our original theory was the transmission thermostat was " NOT " being pinned when the cooler was completely empty .
If you have thoughts , please share ..................

All the information can be found in my low fluid poll
I am trying my best to keep the information as relevant and accurate as possible .
There are soo many low on fluid posts scattered throughout Tacoma World to read , I have a hard time keeping up.
If you have new information that may help others , please post at the link below .
I update this thread daily just as I did with the low fluid poll for the 2nd gen trucks

Not sure why he would lie. No reason to. I simply asked him if I should drive it gently for any certain period of time or distance. He said no and that was his reason why. You are purely speculating, and really don't know, I imagine.
