I just bought a 2017 TRD 4x4 Sport from a Mazda dealer, so no service help there. This is my first automatic transmission vehicle, and certainly first auto 4x4, so I'm not sure what's normal. There's a few weeks left on the Toyota warranty, so if there are any issues want to jump on them.

When I tried out 4wd hi on pavement it seemed to take a lot of throttle to get going. I had to check if maybe the parking brake was on. Once it got moving seemed okay, but as soon as I let off the throttle it stopped like the brake had been applied. Is this normal behavior? I doubt if the previous owner ever took the truck off road and may rarely or never used 4wd.

Yeah, I should have checked this before purchase. Anything else I should do to check for possible problems under warranty?

Thankful for finding this group and have been going from thread to thread like a kid in a candy store, but was unable to readily find if this question had already been asked.

    Thanks

    Welcome!

The difference in drivability between 2H and 4H should be nearly undetectable.

Considering its a used truck, check that the parking brake cable isn't stuck.

@ryan760 is correct there should be no noticable differences, aside from some binding on sharp turns.
Are you sure you weren't in 4 low?
Also, while it's not going to blow up, 4wd should be used on loose surfaces, not the pavement. Read your manual first, then go find a lot or field to get familiar with the controls.
    Enjoy your new truck!

Drive with 2hi and get used to how that feels. Make sure that your parking brake is not on or stuck aswell. 4hi adds a little more load to your engine but shouldn't feel significantly different.

On a straight-away, on pavement, the difference between 2Hi and 4Hi will be unnoticeable. If you sense a significant difference, there is an issue.
