Hey y’all, just picked up a ‘23 TRD Off-Road (3rd gen)! I’m looking to upgrade the suspension and tires soon and wanted to get some feedback from those who’ve done it. I’ve been eyeing the ICON Stage 3 lift kit paired with KO2s, but open to other setups that are solid both on and off-road.

Would love to hear/see what y’all are running tire sizes, lift specs, any trimming/Cab Mount Chop needed, pros/cons, etc. Appreciate the help!

Ive had a 21 OR for 4 years now and have done a mix of light off road/long road trips. Currently running billstein 5100s, tires arent great - goodyear all terrains, not sure of the exact model. Gonna switch to falkens I think soon. The shocks are great though, huge improvement over stock. Firm on road but definetely handle our old logging/resource roads up here.

Eventually planning to add a roof-top tent or bed rack setup and take this thing on legit off-road trips — so I’m building with that in mind.

Would love to hear what y’all are running in terms of:

    • Tire size (especially if running 285s or bigger)
    • Lift kits that worked great long-term
    • Any trimming, cab mount chop, or UCA recs
    • Any regrets or “wish I knew first” tips

How do you like the Bilsteins?

I’ve been looking at those too especially for a more budget-friendly option before going full ICON. Sounds like they’ve held up pretty well for you. Did you notice much difference off-road or on logging roads compared to stock?

2.5” OME lift, Koenig Six Shooter wheels, 275/70r17 Nokian Outpost AT, CMC, Nitro 4.88s, Greenlane aluminum sliders, CBI aluminum skid, Greenlane aluminum front bumper, Out Gear Solutions HC rear bumper, Baja SAE fogs
You want my advice? Keep it mostly stock. Go to 255/75r17 tires that weigh less than 50 lbs on wheels that weigh less than 25 lbs and add Greenlane Aluminum sliders.

Do not lift it. Do not add big giant tires. Do not add a roof rack. Do not tack a bunch of weight to it. The third gen cannot handle it.

I would just drive the truck for awhile and get to know it and make sure you got lucky and didn’t get someone’s problem they traded before you start spending money. JMHO.

Really like them so far, they've taken me through an Alberta winter and into the summer - I tend to go on moderate/light offroad trips in between long drives to & from work. They feel firmer than stock on road which is nice, and give great feedback when offroading. The great thing with them, as I understand you can leave your truck stock height (mine is) and then if you want to put a lift they will work with that also. Personally, if you're looking for advice on what to add to your truck, I'd echo what these other people have said, leave it stock go on adventures and add what you need. You really don't need much to have fun with these trucks!

But…but…how does one go places and do stuff without all that stuff!?

On a serious note, @U PizZa ChET, I have the 5100s and an AAL, it’s been huge improvement over the stock OR suspension. My reason for going with an aftermarket shocks was I didn’t like how soft the stock suspension feels. Take the advice of drive it first and figure out what upgrades you need/want as you go.

Lol you couldn't describe a setup that I would enjoy less than Icon's + KO2's, but I don't care for how either of those ride or perform lol.

There is tons of stuff to research for suspension and how you want to use the truck, so give it some time to marinate before you spend a bunch of money and end up hating the truck. Also, these trucks are super sensitive to front end lifts, so lifting any higher than about 1.7" without going long travel and your ride quality really starts to suffer.

My truck is fully built and I only use it for vacations.

What are "legit" off road trips? Any particular trails or areas you had in mind?
There are many different ways to build these trucks, but knowing what you intend to do might help people start you off with better recommendations (simply asking what others are running won't necessarily mean that particular setup will be right for you also). A rock crawling setup is very different from an "overlanding" setup is very different from a pre-running (go-fast) setup, and so on.

Yeah you're probably Ok if nothing's come up by now.

Save your money and by the 5100's. They are bigger and better than the oem OR Bilsteins. And Bilstein recommends you keep your stock coils.
