I bought mine in 2016 when cement gray and the black leather (softtex) wasn't available on anything else. I got the exact truck I wanted at the time. Just my reasoning :D

They actually sent me the wrong fitting stuff at first but shipped out the correct stuff immediately. You'll love it!

Jeez! A guy can't change his wheels? I think the Pro wheels are kind of weird looking. I definitely bought the better looking TRD wheels and will use the stockers for my winter wheels.

New thread! And for the Pros... Nice!

I've posted some of my upgrades on a couple of other threads, including the 'What have you done with your 3rd Gen' thread but here is what I have done and have considered for my Pro.

    Uprgrades:
    • USR Switchback side mirrors
    • Kylin's center console lid cover
    • Gasshole
    • Stickers
    • Bed extender from my '01 Taco (what a surprise that it fit with just some brackets)
    • Glove compartment and console organizers
    • Trifold tonneau cover
    • Weathertech floor mats
    • Cupholder liners

I went for the low hanging fruit first. Now for what I am considering for my upgrades.

    Considering:
    • A rack. Maybe a Prinsu but I'm still not sure if I can do that with the 'snorkel'
    • Tires/Wheels. I really like the tires and wheels that my truck came with for on the road. Wet or dry. I don't know how they will handle off road yet. I haven't gotten there yet. I am considering getting a separate set of wheels and tires to switch out when I want to wheel and keep my stock tires for the daily driving. So.... Have two separate sets of tires/wheels.
    • Front bumper/hybrid bumper: something that will also handle a winch. Don't know yet.
    • Rocket Launchers... Because... Rocket Launchers!
I've only had this truck for two and a half months now so I'm slowly getting into it.
    Here is the baby.

The major difference is the TRD-tuned fox shocks. The rest is all cosmetic, except maybe the LED fog lights.

Does the Pro come with the TRD cat-back exhaust?

Ok. So for actual performance upgrades, you get the shocks, the exhaust, the wheels with a wider stance, and the LED fogs. It’s a cool package of you can afford the cost.

    Nice Friggen Truck!!!!!

I know it’s controversial, but I am starting to really come around to that TRD Dingus intake. It looks extra killer on the black truck. The ARB one looks like someone bolted a wood stove to your fender. That intake actually has some reasonable coherence with the lines of the truck.

I think he was asking what’s the point of buying the pro if you’re just going to take off all those extras and put different stuff on.

I know. I just couldn’t remember if the exhaust was part of it. Satisfying my own curiosity.

In the end, the arguments against the Pro are valid based purely on economics, unless you have the money, and don’t care, then you get some bragging rights in starting your mod journey from the highest level trim, with some cosmetic upgrades and true performance upgrades you might keep (exhaust, fogs, wheels).

Let me expound on the Pro....

Those Fox shocks are great. They may not be the best ever shocks but they are the best shocks that Toyota has put on a stock truck. I take speed bumps like they weren't even there. I used to go around them and see others still do that.

It really is the most capable Tacoma, off the lot. Sure. You can modify to get more capability. I get way more than enough and way more capability than my previous off-road vehicles. And I beat the shit out of them.

I only somewhat agree about the price. I only got mine about 2,000 to 3,000 more than what I would have gotten an Off-Road version and all the features I wanted.

<shrug> That is a better baseline than 38k and putting another 10-15k in mods to get where most people would love to be.

    Thanks!

It really does look good on the truck. I was skeptical at first but it really does stand out

I found it makes much more sense, visually, in person. I saw one on the lot near me, and liked it much more than I thought I would. If I was buying a pro, I’d do the DAI for sure.

If you don't think of it as a snorkel then it really does make sense. I was more of a desert runner with my previous trucks. I wish I had it then. With that thought it is more than just visual.

I think it’s something that just doesn’t photograph all that great. Of all the options, in pure functionality, the TRD intake is bound to be superior for dust being that much higher up. It would guess the Toyota engineers actually thought about it and tested it.

They had some limitations. We know the A-pillar metal is highly engineered in these trucks, so they were not going to come up with something that requires drilling into that. The end result is we have a intake that is higher than what people are used to, but likely works much better as a result.
