As I continue to live vicariously through the real 3rd gen off-road guys..... I was watching Rory Irish' channel on YT and he said that he would not even accept a recovery job for our trucks if they did not have an aftermarket front bumper. There was apparently a concern that there is nothing under the front-end that is sturdy enough.
Have any of you heard of this "flaw" or experienced/seen a failed recovery from this?

Well stock front end, the way he would have to haul it out and hook it would inevitably damage the whole front fascia. There's nothing accessible to lift up. To strap down, sure. But not up.

Anyone west have trips planned for the Rubicon this year? Was supposed to go with a friend and he grenaded his rig so he's down for the season. Would love to not take my first run down it solo...

Also going to make a maiden voyage to Slick Rock around June 7/8

    Interesting question to me zebrascissors!

I'm anxious to see the response(s) here. I too, would like to run the Rubicon as kind of a "bucket list" sort of thing and I'm curious if people here without a group are willing and open to grouping up otherwise to to engage for a shared interest. Similarly, I would love to go to Moab too with someone who knows how to make the most of it and knows the ins-and-outs of camping and permitting there.

However, I'm not going this season. We're buying a new home and I'm saddled with a ton of moving and new home chores until i retire in 2 years or so. But if I live for 3 more years...it's game on buddy! Again, good question and I'm going to keep an eye on this. o_O

Rock therapy is always a good time out in moab. Lots of great people and usually there ends up being a few groups that do different trails throughout the weekend. Usually its late october.

Most of Rory's recoveries involving using a wrecker to pull a damaged rig into the air (front wheels off the ground) and towing it out of hard trails in Moab.

Most breakages are going to be front end related no matter if it's a Dana 60 or a IFS Tacoma. You have knuckles, steering, tie rods, steering racks, CV axles, spindles, blah blah blah.

Even if your Tacoma has a decent front bumper on it, and Rory pulls you out, something is going to get mangled in the process. Price to pay.

From a different camera angle. Interesting, looks like I would've dragged a stock rear bumper:

That makes me so happy. I have literally built mine to be as strong and useable as possible, without being LT. Specifically because I wanted to keep it from being too wide. Even throwing in a Tundra rack with fully heimed steering. Pretty soon to be 37's if the BTF lowers work out.

Same here, I'm also keeping an eye on those BTF lowers

My only concern is them altering the angle enough to where my RCVs hit my Kings. We shall see. Might have to play with my RCV boots and slide the outer in a bit.
