As someone who also was a teen in the 90s and early 2000s, the DSM is the ultimate affordable tuner car. The “hunks” of crap outperformed everything in its class by miles. Out performed the 2jz for years, and that’s one heck of a motor too. The 4g63 powered cars were probably the most influential power train to today’s current aftermarket.

Mitsubishi is on the brink of collapse due to poor business choices. The era they thrived most was the era of the 4g63.

Most of those teenagers also added intakes, exhaust and boost controllers without any tuning. Other than the low % of crank walking 7 bolts most failures where user caused.

I burned a valve at age 16 tuning 550cc injectors with a corvette gm maf and no wbo2.

I broke a timing belt due to bad maintenance taking out an entire motor.

Once I learned what I was doing me and my brither have put over 200k miles on two 4g63s making over 400whp with zero issues.

It was the cheapest and easiest import tuner platform ever produced if in the right hands.

    TT would be bad a$$

with a good tune i'm guessing you can add 75hp on a stock setup. you can change the head gasket to lower the compression. if you want to get more aggressive you would need to change out the pistons.

i'm waiting for the turbo diesel - no fuel or engine limits - problems will be with the tranny and rear end - lol

Lets take this further...the Tacoma comes alive after 3500 RPM. in sport it will push you in the seat. not in a corvette sense. Wouldn't a turbo be redundant.

Something to get to 3500...now we are talking.

Who said it would spool after 3500rpm? OVT plans to use smaller turbos and have boost around 2500 or earlier

looks like he's talking about spooling UP TO 3500, not after, because we essentially kinda already have that from the timing advance.

He mentioned both, with the spoiling after 3500 being redundant and implying that a turbo kit is only capable of providing late spool/power. He then brought up the "what if" for spooling up to 3500, which is in the works. Or technically less, since Mat's kit will be spooled up before then

I ended up just porting my turbo to creep and tuning it on e85. Pushed my 16g to infinite boost. Would peg 32-35psi and drop to 26-28psi at redline.
