Or you could go the opposite way, boost a lower compression OG 1GR (non dual vvti), cylinders use spiny type cast iron sleeves which help with block rigidity. Even though the 1GR is NA, Toyota over engineered the shit out of it. Water jacket spacers push fluid to the top instead of in the middle or at the bottom which helps mitigate any hotspots, something you don’t want on a boosted vehicle ( at least our water jackets are thick enough and not causing the block to crack) :rimshot:(FERD FOCI “URRRRRSSSSSSS”)
Rods and crank are forged, just need to rebuild her with forged pistons. Lower rpms and .5 larger displacement will help spool faster depending on turbo size. 1GR has reliably ran 7psi on stock internals and with right tuning, which is now becoming available, I’m guessing you can safely and reliably make 325whp.
I’ve looked into overboring and sleeving back or as close as I can to stock displacement to help increase cylinder wall rigidity when I boost. Or you could just outdo every Tacoma on the road and go @DOUBLLD ’s route.

LOL when the 1gr fails you so many times you have to go with what works with a little twist haha

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_GR_engine

    http://www.toyotareference.com/guts/tacoma16_engine.pdf

I've read this ^ other places besides Wikipedia, but either engine would be suitable, but the 2GR-FKS is ideal for him, as he has a 3rd Gen Tacoma. Both have forged cranks, rods, and the Spiny Cast Iron Sleeves. Though the 1GR definitely has Displacement in its corner, the D-4S Direct Injection & Port Injection and dual VVT puts the 2GR-FKS higher in terms of tune-able power without massive modification.

(As a disclaimer to the above, I have no practical experience with any tuning/engine building, with the exception of helping with a couple Subaru Engine Tear-downs (not my own). I am a hobby mechanic only, and my experience is mostly reading articles from before I bought my Tacoma when I switched from my 2015 WRX. I was very concerned with Direct Injection and read quite a bit on the subject, as WRX engines were suddenly detonating due to Low Speed Pre-Ignition caused by a poor tune from Subaru.)

Would love to see someone complete a twin turbo 2GR-FKS!!!

Idk if it's already been noted in this thread yet, but @OVTune has plans for R&D to twin turbo the 3.5L Taco and then sell a kit once everything is all said and done. I believe he still plans to use GTX28 series Garrett turbos and his last update was that he is aiming to have a first look sometime in May of this year.

Magnusson is supposed to be working on a supercharger, but they keep pushing back the targeted release date and the last update was spring 2019 I think.

URD is expected to release something in the way of a SC, at some point, but there's been no news about anything in R&D from them, aside from looking for a 2.7L donor vehicle back in November

RR Racing has recently come out with a 412 whp (490 crank hp) supercharger kit for the 3.5 in the GS/IS 350 (same motor). They have done extensive testing for reliability.
    lexus dyno.jpg
I think it can handle it.

I inquired if they were working on a tacoma option, and they told me after the development for the Lexus was complete, they would work on a tacoma next.

Even if you did manage to throw together a completely 1 off fabbed twin turbo kit, I have EVERY DOUBT that the factory ECU could handle the increased airflow and vis a vis fuel demands. Good luck with that massive headache.

it's not the same engine, ECU, electronics, or anything. the only thing that is shared is the "2GR" in the name.

    I'm not saying you're wrong.....but:
Fueling issues are solved with an different fuel pump, and the fact that the ECU has been cracked, there are ways to improve the air flow metering, or add additional air flow meters.

I think the stock fuel system has room for more power, as it is direct injection. Once OV tuning gets it figured out, or not, we'll have our answer.

What is the difference between the 2GR-FKS engines? From Wiki (i know, not the best source):

    2GR-FKS[edit]
The 2GR-FKS combines the D-4S system from the 2GR-FSE with the simulated on-demand Atkinson cycle used in the 2UR-GSE and 8AR-FTS engines. The intake camshafts are equipped with VVT-iW and the exhaust camshafts are equipped with VVT-i. In the Tacoma the engine specifications are 207 kW (278 hp) at 6000 rpm and 359 N⋅m (265 lb⋅ft) at 4600 rpm.[9] In the Lexus RX 350 the engine specifications are 220 kW (295 hp) at 6300 rpm and 362 N⋅m (267 lb⋅ft) at 4700 rpm respectively. In the Lexus IS350 and GS350 the engine specifications are 232 kW (311 hp) at 6600 rpm and 380 N⋅m (280 lb⋅ft) at 4800 rpm respectively.

    Applications (calendar years):

The IS/GS350 (from what you quoted about RR) uses the 2GR-FSE. completely different engine. Different ECU which 1/10th the complexity, different crank/ rods/ pistons / heads, everything.
