    looking for some insight...
my 2019 trd o.r. when new, had what I thought was a super high idle after starting the truck. dealer did some diagnostic work, afterwards, seemed to lower the idle. ever since though, the truck seems to gasp when starting, especially in the cold. also have what seems like an imbalance in the fan or something, as the truck has a constant resonance/droning sound from 25-50 m.p.h.
any thoughts before I take it to the dealer for another diagnosis?
    thanks.

High idle on startup and while sitting is normal. What RPMs were you at? I’m not sure about the droning. You may need a video.

The high idle is normal, mine does it too. Not sure about the droning though.

    Can you define "high idle"?

With respect to the sounds, I think you are being overly sensitive. It's a complex modern engine and does tend to make a lot of unique noises. What you're probably hearing is the cleaning cycle. It does sound a little disconcerting if you don't know what it is.

kinda familiar with the initial startup idle being high-ish, but all my previous trucks would settle down after 20-30 seconds...this one stayed a level that I had to make sure I was heavy on the brake before shifting into reverse to back out of garage...can't recall the rpm number at that time, had the adjustment made last March...but since, has seemed lethargic, haven't made note of where rpms have been lately, mild spring temps last year, this is the 1st winter for it, and it's struggling on starts.

I'd start gathering some metrics so you can compare. RPMs, how long they stayed, what did it drop to, what temp etc

There is a reset relearn procedure for idle...on warm engine shut off all accessories then key on, key off, key on, start, apply brake put vehicle in drive for 2- 3 minutes back into park key off all done.

Do you have a 3 inch lift?
Could it be your needle bearing failing, causing the constant resonance/droning? Does it go away if you shift into 4wd?

it is lifted 3", however, only about 5000 miles on it since lift, I'm at 9800 miles total...
you think they could burn up that quick?

I have a 2019 and when it’s cold, say 32 and below, it will idle at about 1300 rpm for a good while and eventually fall to below 1,000. Doesn’t shift hard into gear after warming up a little either. Personally the higher idle never bothered me and seems normal.

"cool" thanks...I guess I'll just see if the dealer can put ecu back to original setting, see if that puts it all straight.

just learned toyota issued recall notice for low pressure fuel pump on '18-'19 tacomas (in addition to many other models) indicating symptoms I've been experiencing...
laboured start: fuel starved, possible rough running sounds from engine.
