    Morning

I know we have a "Max Capacity" but what weight could I tow and not worry about long-term damage due to strain on the truck?

Thanks in advance for any guidance.

There is no definitive answer to your question. The best answer is a general reply - the less weight the less stress on the vehicle. Only thing you can do is choose a trailer that meets your requirements and needs and is under the max limit. You can look for the lightest trailer that fits your needs. No one can say that for example pulling a 2000lb trailer your truck will last longer than pulling a 2500lb trailer. Besides there are a lot of factors in addition to weight of trailer that will affect stress on the truck and longevity of the truck.

80 % maybe. but at some point nothing last forever. If you need 100% a 100% of the time, get a bigger truck?

Thanks, I dont have a camper but was looking for a general guide on "You should stick with a range of 2500lbs-3500lbs" for example. I would not want to haul a camper that was at or near our max of 6800 lbs.

3500 lbs is about what most suggest for comfortable driving. Above that, or hills, or lot of miles.. maybe not so hot.

5700lbs here, tows fine, not winning any speed races tho lol!! Boats might be easier to tow due to aerodynamics compared to a camper trailer but weight wise I see no reason to not tow uo to 6,000lbs. Just don't expect or demand responsive performance from your Tacoma and you'll be fine

Well I would say the trailer makes a big different. I am in no way an expert in towing. I recently had to move a 1948 ford 8N tractor from my rural property into the city. The tractor is not very heavy. 1500 -1600. But I felt the trailer was a bit much. Took it slow and easy. It was not my trailer, it is my tractor. Probably would not use that trailer again. Would want a lighter trailer for sure. 3gen Tacoma

trying to determine if I bought and old Toyota pickup if I could tow that. Also what trailer should I try to get.
