Went in for standard oil change, tech says he hears more of a knocking/ticking that normal? Service tech then pokes his head under hood and says its your vacuum pump. Engine sounds the same to me as always. Anyway 1100$ quote so i start to look it up. Mine is a 2016 Limited Tacoma, just turned 75k miles 4x4, automatic. So appears just the 2017 had a recall on it. Other TSB T-SB-0115-22 talks about the noise but is not a recall.
So what is the purpose of raising the tranny 3/4"? Just to make it possible to slide the pump out from behind the engine? anyone know? Pump is about 4-500$ so would rather do it myself. The pump swap looks straight forward, just trying to confirm if the transmission lift is necessary.
    thanks!

It is tight. Most likely 1 bolt on the bottom of the pump will be a struggle to get from the top. May need to get intake off and disconnect all hoses and harness. Otherwise, doable
