What do the window deflectors do? They look cool, but is there some functionality?

Snow and rain stays out. Fresh air stays in. I'm a So cal guy and needs it with my trips to death valley, and the eastern Sierras.

    Truck stuff
I got them to prevent water from running in when its wet out and still allow fresh air in. I prefer the windows cracked than just blowing air through the AC/heat. When its hot out I leave the windows cracked to keep the inside from becoming an oven when its hot out. It really keeps it a lot cooler and you cant tell the windows are cracked unless you get up close and look up under the vents.

I dont like the look that most window vents give vehicles. I also dont like when they just stick on to the outside of the window and stick out too far, they just look out of place to me stuck to the outside window frame. With the low profile look and the in channel attachment I dont even notice these on my truck most of the time.

I want them because I'm a chain-smoker and always crack my window so I don't annoy my non-smoking passengers. Hopefully it will cut down on the wind noise at 75mph. And besides, as you mentioned, they look cool :)
