IMG_2091.jpg My abs light, came on so I took it to the dealer. They found a broken wheel speed sensor. They are telling me they won't warranty it because "it looks like something hit it, causing it to break off." (Truck has 25k on it) They want roughly 500$ to do the repair. I told them I would just slap the sensor on myself. The service manager said that the sensor would need to be calibrated after it's installed and that the abs light would still be on. Do I just need to clear the code after installing the sensor, or is there a calibration procedure that needs to be done that requires a computer? Shouldn't this be covered under warranty? I let the service manager know I disagreed with their lack of coverage, he told me contact corporate and let them know, because they have the final say in warranty claims. So I "escalated the case" with Toyota corporate and they got back to me saying the dealership is still denying any warranty coverage, and corporate is telling me that the dealership is the one who has the final say in warranty claims. Thoughts?

That's some run around bullshit if I've ever seen it...... I know this is just barely related, but when someone hit my drivers side mirror they wouldn't replace it under warranty because you could see where the other car had impacted it. I feel like sensors under the truck should be covered tho, there's gonna be rocks and road crap hitting them all the time. Sorry OP, maybe try a different dealer?

The speed sensor itself doesn't require calibration.
It might be the steering angle, vsc, zeropoint, garbage that needs calibration; of which the speed sensors are a part of.
You can do it via Techstream or the jumper method.

That said, the replace and check procedure from the service manual, has you drive at a speed of 25 mph or more, for at least 60 seconds, to confirm if DTCs reappear or not. So, it might not even be necessary.

Thanks for the input, I tried one last time with the service manager at the dealer and they are still saying they won't cover it. I'm gonna pick up the truck this afternoon, and will get the sensor in this weekend, I'll let you know how it goes.
