How do some of you guys on here get away with tinting the entire windshield? From what I could find it isn't legal in any state.

I have 70% on my windshield but you can't even tell it's applied. It does cut heat down a ton and of course the UV blocking is a plus.

Law enforcement around here don't seem to know or care.
I've been driving 22 years and been pulled over twice. The last time was 10 years ago.
Besides, unless you can be incarcerated for it, I'd say it's more of a tax; if/when you're caught.

My 2011 Tacoma had 5% all the way around and 50% on the windshield.
I only got harassed once and just paid the $45 fix it ticket

Not sure where youre located, but here in Cali, there is a limit to how may times you can be cited for the same fixit ticket. They call it something and you cant just get it signed off anymore. I forgot, the kids a leo, I ll have to ask again.
But how is the material these days? I had tint 90/70 back in the 80's and the insides shows a bunch of scratches on the inside from cleaning windows and off road dust. Is that still an issue?

Meh...when I lived there(30 years), I knew a guy with 6 DUIs. If you have enough money, it's a 'tax'.

I left because of the 'changes'.

hmmm thought that if you don't go past the ASL line on the front window for tint you shouldn't have any issues.

70% is legal on the front driver and passenger windows. The stock glass is around 80% so anything but a clear UV film is illegal. We usually go around 35%. I got a fix it ticket back in 2011 for it on my old Nissan. My wife got a fix it ticket for her front 20% last week.

You will only get a real ticket for window tint if the LEO sees previous fix it tickets on your record before he writes the ticket. It usually takes MANY fix it tickets around here before anyone gets a real ticket for multiple window tint infractions.

California allows a strip of tint above the front windshield glass. I don't remember how far down it can go but it's not very far. That's why some vehicles have those dotted areas around the rear view mirror

Thanks for the info z50. Can you comment on if the film develops scratches on the inside from dust and cleaning? I remember this back in the late 80's

I have never had scratches on any 3M Color Stable tint. I think a mini fridge I moved in the Civic scratched the window tint once, but that was because I bashed it into the glass

sorry its not an ASL line, its a AS-1 line. always forget its a 1 instead of an L.

remember not all vehicles have an AS-1 line. I think jeep wranglers don't since the its the whole front windshield.

I used Splitbolt's picture as a guide and took the same route, suntek 18% front windows / 25% around all the back windows.

Getting my fronts done next friday. I can't decide. I want to match as close as possible from the outside. I'm thinking 20%?

Did the ol' 20% front. Really like how it matches. Wouldn't really want to go any darker since at night its just dark enough that I can see while using the mirrors and backing up.

So you in your pic the rear windows are stock, right? You only tinted the fronts-20%? Is it an identical match of near match? I'm wondering what the factory rear tint % is? Anyone know?
