That's a good price for the job though.

Thats Great! Did you check for the leak or did it leak before you looked?

From what im reading about the cost of the dealer replacing the pipe i got a break! Looks like people are paying close to 2500 for the repair, All the more reason to make a complaint to the NHTSA.

appreciate this post, just checked my coolant during my oil change and its right at the low mark for the reservoir.... calling the dealership tomorrow to get it looked at, guessing the extended warranty i purchased is gonna pay for itself. Little flustered that I only have 17000 miles and this is already surfacing....

Active Leak from rear water bypass joint.jpg
Thanks! 17000 wow, The way to tell if it is the rear joint leak is if you go to the front passengers side door look up under at the rear of the engine atop the trans and there may be coolant crusted where the wire harness is, It may be as a seep the beginning.

Just lay down under the passenger side, shine a flashlight up follow the catalytic converter, above the bellhousing there will be that black plastic piece.

Seems always the passenger side leaks.

There's your problem... Your oil turned into pebbles, look at the floor.

Picture was grabbed off ebay, someone selling a junkyard motor.

The bottom bolts can be the real bitch to get if you are working from the top.

Ive looked at both sides from underneath and cant seem to see any pink crust anywhere on the crossover pipe. but there is a little residue coming off the small overflow hose at the top of the radiator that drains into the reservoir... gonna replace that, fill the reservoir back up and see how it goes... thanks for the pictures and the tutorial.. hoping its just the hose. kinda surprised theres no clamps holding that small hose on. I get there may not be any real pressure on it per se but still seems weird to me..

You would get a warning light and audible alert long before that with an overtemp. On a differential with fluid lost nothing but a lockup and spin out possibly.

True! But like i said before They also did a recall on frame corrossion for 2011 thru 2017 From time of first use with no mileage limitations, I would think a Coolant leak using not so good material would be more important especially since its happening to so many, It looks like average price is about 2500 to repair thats about half the engine cost,

What is amazing I know that on some Camry's in late 2000's had sticky dashboards. Yes sticky dashboards. And they extended the warranty to 10 years to replace at 0 cost if you had one.
Seems like the good old days of Toyota quality are waning somewhat.

It really matters on the number of complaints owners had sent to the NHTSA,
