Maybe, but I just looked up the RTI scores on both vehicles and unless I the sources I saw were wrong it seems to support what I'm feeling.

2017 Tacoma TRD offroad RTI score 477
2016 4Runner Trail edition w/KDSS RTI score 323 (supposedly the non-kdss is even worse but I saw other places saying different #s so who knows)

I feel ya on the Jeep I too have a 2017 JKU Willy's edition (I'm in the car business got a lease offer I couldn't refuse and will have equity at the end), the solid front axle and short wheel base definitely give it a huge advantage over the Tacoma on technical terrain, rock crawling, etc.... But the one thing I LOVE about the Tacoma is being able to go hitup Anza Borrego and blast through the sand in 2wd, drifting, donuts, even catch a little air etc.... would never even think about doing that in the jeep, she likes it slow and steady, my Tacoma likes it fast and rough :)

100% satisfied here... I sold/traded in my '00 v8 Tundra that I had for 15 years for my brand new '17 v6 Tacoma, and absolutely love it. No regrets.

This is my first Tacoma but second Toyota but I love my 3rd gen very much.
I have a lot memories with it in the 10 months and 16k miles I have put on it and have zero issues.
Looking forward to enjoy the next 284k miles I put on it.

The only thing the 4Runner wins at is departure angle. When the back-end thumps crossing a ditch on your Taco, your are reminded of the sacrifice you make driving a pickup.

Looks like Ma Toyota did not like the bad press about un-greased zerks, so they eliminated them on the rear driveshaft...(bitch now you bastards, Toyota says...)...hehe But they forgot to remove them from the front driveshaft....(dumb bastards likely did not know there was 2 there...hehe).. so you still have 2 zerks that need grease... Get a grease gun out and get to work..!!

Currently run fleet sales for a dealership in San Diego, but I've done floor sales, internet director, finance, used car manager, etc... I made more money in other positions but I really enjoy the schedule and freedom of doing fleet sales. No more weekends/late nights/holidays. Very rare to be in sales in the car business and still have your weekends so I think i'll do this for a while:)

Very true. And I'm not trying to hate on the 4Runner other than "at the limits" offroading I think its a better vehicle than the Tacoma in every other way. Quieter, smoother, still has the 4.0L and better tranny, better fit and finish (built in Japan) so I still highly recommend it and if I didn't NEED a truck bed I'd still be in one. I just felt foolish for always thinking "same frame same truck" lol

The 4runner and Tacoma do not have the same frame, the runner has the same frame as the land cruiser I believe and is built on the same assembly line in Japan. The runner frame is fully boxed, the Tacoma is partially boxed, c channel in the back. The Tacoma access cab frame is 22inches longer than the 4runner. I had the access cab off road model taco.
I loved my taco when I first bought it, but problem after problem led to me ditching it. I love my runner, I still love the taco and I hope the bugs get ironed out. I'm sincerely glad for those of you who got good trucks, mine was a Friday oops job I think, lol. Maybe I'll get another taco once everything gets resolved, they are awesome trucks.
