Its funny because I always just assumed it was true and never cared to look it up, good info the know they used to share and engine and transmission (even then the 4runner had more advanced dual vvti) and that's where the similarities ended, never knew they are built on entirely different chassis, makes even more sense why the Tacoma is better offroad now.

You can also add those that didn't bother responding..... assuming every TW 3rd gen owner has bothered to look at the poll much less vote.

It's trending that 1 in 10 has a gripe about something, nothing more.

About something? I read it as being unsatisfied with the purchase....? but ok.

What you decide it means does not mean everyone thinks that.... unless you have 25 minions that told you they were unsatisfied with the purchase before they voted.

Here's a for instance....... guy buys a tacoma, is happy with his purchase. Buys a boat, decides he wants a bigger boat, buys bigger boat, too big for tacoma now, unsatisfied with Tacoma, mad now that he can't have bigger boat.

Votes for being unsatisfied but in reality, nothing wrong with tacoma, just bought wrong truck.

Then there's the 1st and 2nd gen guys voting to skewer results.

    Trending but nothing more.

I love my truck! 2017 TRD OR DC... I'm going in for my 5k service tomorrow and have had no problems. It seemed to hunt gears early on but I have been doing a fair amount of mountain driving with plenty of gear and it has been taking it like a beast and does not seem to struggle, ECT helps for sure.

Took my truck off road for 43 miles yesterday. Now have 10K in three months of no issues. Enjoying it immensely.

Nope but being in the business I'm in we have a mantra that says "trust, but verify".

Maybe if you were required to register your VIN prior to voting, include a reason why you voted the way you did and include a total roster of participants compared to verified owners I might put more credence in these "polls".

I happen to live in the world where facts matter, not opinions.

exactly correct the polls a skewered because anyone can vote on it, its not restricted to only 3rd gen owners, so its a flawed poll. most people ive talked to in the real world who own the 3rd gen rave about how good the vehicle is and don't have any of the issues prevalently posted at nausea over and over here.

I'm reading into it as for every 10 positive votes, someone votes negative and that's the trend but not based on fact. It has no meaning at all in customer satisfaction other than this is just another useless poll.

Most 3rd gen owners I know don't even know about TW but certainly love their trucks.

I've been happy with mine, but over time the annoyances have started to pile up. I'm on the fence now and wondering why I continue to make excuses for it.

My wife's less biased assessment is that it has been a bigger PITA than any car we've owned.

No, I'm just showing the flaws in this poll that some are placing so much emphasis in.

All this poll does is bring out both ends of the spectrum, at a ratio of about 10:1 and that's it. No guarantee it's just owners participating either.

    Not overthinking it at all.

Of course this poll is biased...in favor of satisfaction. Nobody buys a $40k truck and hopes it's a POS...quite the contrary. People who pay alot of money for something and then admit it was a mistake are a rarity. It's much more typical for people who are not completely satisfied to go to great lengths justifying their $40k decision even ignoring the plainly obvious issues at hand. They are trying to protect their ego. That is psych 101. It also doesn't account for the fanboi effect. Some people, for some inexplicable reason tie their sense of self-worth to a particular brand and will defend the brand despite the facts at hand. I don't understand these people, but this phenomenon is real, which is why companies spend so much time on branding.

I like many things about my truck, but the eng/trans is such a disappointment at this point that overall I'm unsatisfied with the truck as a whole. I have owned 6 Toyota Trucks over the last 20 years and this is the first one I would say this about unfortunately.

I am at a point in my life where I have less years ahead of me than behind me. For that reason I am doing everything I can to enjoy life, and I enjoy vehicles and driving. If I had a tenth of the problems some people here claim I would sell or trade it in a minute, take a loss and move on to something I like and enjoy. For the life of me I cannot understand why some would want to hang on and continue to come here and trash the Tacoma. There is so much more to life than being a killjoy and doom and gloom. Trade for something else, go find other like minded people ( Jeep, Nissan, Ranger, etc) and have fun!

Agreed, which is why it perplexes me why the same people continue to repeatedly complain about other's sharing their negative experiences. "Physicians heal thyselves" and all that jazz...;-)

    I've thought this too.

Up to this point I've been a fan. Posted a lot about where this ride has taken me. Even did it yesterday. I want to be a fan. It just wants to keep testing me. That said, I'm certainly not here to convince anyone to think as I do. The question (this thread) was asked and I shared my current thought.

Just to be clear, I have had very significant complaints as per the shifting, crazy noises and loss of power during dangerous upshifts when a down shift is needed from day 1. Just WOW!! Horrible to drive. I have had the car to dealer 3 times to have these items addressed/flashed/investigated with ZERO results. In fact, it is now worse so.....I called Toyota (as my service rep suggested) and got a TOTAL BLOW OFF BY TOYOTA!! I COULD NOT BELIEVE IT!!
As in "I am so sorry but Toyota has done as much as they are going to as per these issues so don't bother us again!" I wish I were kidding. That call happened just this morning. The calling agent when questioned had no idea what might be done but did know that these complaints are VERY common in this iteration of the Tacoma. He just kept stating that Toyota will be doing NOTHING so.....I will keep the good people who have put their faith in corporate Toyota product fully aware of my ongoing battle to get what I paid for. I have a Tacoma Limited so, it was a lot!!
I never back down and never will, especially when told by a global corporate entity that "YOU ARE NOT IMPORTANT TO US IN ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM"
THAT IS WHAT I JUST HEARD FROM TOYOTA. There was not even an offer to have a specialist look at the truck. Nothing. Just told to go away and don't bother us with your petty problems that you paid a lot of money for. NICE TOYOTA!!
Trust me, I will light this up and take it to every social media outlet that I can think of and advise every one I associate with on my experience with this JOKE of a company.
Other than that, it's a great truck.
    Now THAT'S a joke!!
