These Gen3 Tacomas are great trucks, the best in class that have ever been made.

I appreciate mine for what it is and does, on great roads and where there are none. With loads and for cruising. I have had no issues to date with the Gen3, and precious few minor ones with Gen2 or older ones.

The poll proves it, 1 out of 10 Tacomas are shit. So here's my view on it. I bought my 16' sport 7/16. Traded in a 07 Silverado 4x with a 6.0...great truck...got 12 mpg...big..bus like. I wanted smaller, better mpg, more nimble, but still able to haul the family. Mission accomplished, couldn't have asked for much more.

Now my truck has never had any problem of any kind....the transmission works like it was designed. It reaches for the highest gear as soon as possible to get me to that 24 mpg. It's irritating to me the way it does this and makes the truck feel like it's a 3 cylinder. There are solutions, the one I am choosing is to trade it in for a manual. Another option is to use the sport mode and ect... put it in s4 and forget it, s5 on the highway, s6 if your descending. Wait that sounds like a lot of work, why not just get manual? That's my view on that issue.

Now my last bit...I am totally satisfied with my truck...yes and I'm trading it in. I have some thoughts on the folks with issues. Buying a new generation of any vehicle could end up being regrettable, even more so when new engines/trans are involved. Now most of the big problems that were more common on the 16 have been adjusted on the 17, and likely problems will be remedied on the 18, so on and so forth. We realize some have gotten the shaft with their purchase, most seem they were early 16s. Some bought a Tacoma and expect it to be something it's not, then are unhappy.

Guess my final point is...if you are unhappy with your Tacoma trade it,sell it, burn it.. whatever. Get rid of it...get what you want...undo your unhappiness...if you still like the Tacoma but have a lemon get a newer one. The relentless bitching about your problems (not saying you can't voice your opinion) sucks the life out of everybody else.

Count you self lucky if you can afford to burn a $40,000 dollar truck. Most of us can't just walk away or even come up with the extra money to trade in. Plus, why should we, we bought brand new trucks, they should work in the first place. Come back and lecture me after your Tacoma has been confiscated for 80 days!

Not lecturing...and not saying you don't have the right to be pissed. I didn't pay 40k for a truck, I paid what I could afford. If you got yourself so upside down on a vehicle that you are stuck with it.....well....bad choice. What I was saying is the ones that bitch to the ends of the Earth wear down the overall satisfaction of others....see what I did there?

    Most do.

    https://www.colorado.gov/pacific/sites/default/files/DR 2440.pdf

Under the law, a “reasonable number of attempts” to repair a defect applies when the same defect remains after it has been subject to repair four (4) or more times within the rst year after the date of original delivery. It also applies when the vehicle is out of service for repairs for a cumulative total of thirty (30) or more business days during the warranty term or one year after original delivery, whichever comes rst.

Nope, I NEVER said this, but clearly you are offended. If somebody tells me, they love their Tacoma, I believe them (that includes you BTW). If someone tells me they hate their Taco (or are somewhere in between), I believe them too. I'm not talking about individuals, I'm talking about KNOWN well established physiological patterns that are ALWAYS a part of surveys like this.
If a large group of individuals make an SIGNIFICANT investment in something, a STATISTICALLY significant portion or those people will report how great that thing is, when they actually don't feel that way. Does that mean that most feel that way? No, not even close...but a statistically significant portion do and their responses actually belong on the other side. Trust me, companies know this and take it into account with their customer satisfaction survey numbers.

Are YOU one of those people. I have NO idea. I don't know you, I don't know your experience with your truck or your history with the Toyota brand. Strong reactions can be a sign of cognitive dissonance in a situation like this. So, your very strong reaction here could be an indicator that you are more likely to fall in that group than just a random person plucked from the group that self reports as being satisfied, but it's certainly no guarantee.

If you are honestly more satisfied with your truck than not, that's great. Seriously. I wish I was...and I will be at some point or it will go bye-bye. :D

And yet, you don't like people complaining about their trucks, but instead of "ignoring them and moving on" you continually complain about "complainers"...the difference is the "complainers" are complaining about something that ACTUALLY has an effect on their day to day life. You on the other hand are incessantly complaining about the opinions of strangers that have NO effect on your life...let me type it again: "Physician, heal thyself."

EXACTLY!! If I was not pleased with m,y truck or any vehicle I would not keep it - pretty simple. Sold/traded my 2014 CR-V to get this truck becasue I hated it. I'm sure it would of lasted a long time, I just simply did not like it nor did it really fit my needs.

Actually it has very little to do with this survey and more to do with human psychology...I find it fascinating the machinations people do inside
their heads (me included). We are an endlessly interesting species. :D

I think I would have bought a Ridgeline according to some connoisseurs here lol!!

But, I HATE MY TRUCK!! HATE IT HATE IT HATE IT AND ABSOLUTELY HATE IT!

I hate the fact that it's so awesome I'd hate to have to be reduced to driving something else. I love the mpg too, especially with gas prices climbing and may climb more if Irma takes to the gulf.

Everything works as designed on mine and if it didn't I'd either fix it, have it fixed or trade it, end of story.

But I hate the though of having to do the latter. Maybe that's the reason some of the biggest complainers here on TW are not trading it, but have instead doubled down on it by adding lift??

    Go figure lol!!

    Satisfied
    Cheers!

I didn't think it was serious. No I'm not, and the term I think you are looking for is psychologist (not one of those either BTW), since Psychiatry tends to deal more with the chemical side of the equation, where Psychology is more the behavioral side. What we are discussing is behavioral, not chemical.

One does not need to be a physicist to understand the basics of physics, like for instance gravity. You said you are not a physicist, but I'm going to go out on a limb
and suggest you understand the basics of gravity, no? The reason I used the term "psych 101" is because what I'm talking about are the basics of known psychological phenomena
with regard to this sort of survey. I'm not making it up, it's in the literature if you want to take the time to read it. Here, have fun.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Choice-supportive_bias

BTW, the above also somewhat explains many of the 2nd Gen fanbois who don't own a 3rd gen, but sh1t on them nonetheless, which is also ridiculous.

We are all psychoanalysts to some degree (have you ever tried to figure out why somebody does what they do or thinks what they think,
congratulations, YOU are a psychoanalyst!). I would consider it a hobby personally because, as I said, I find human behavior fascinating.
It's particularly fascinating when you read about psychological phenomena and you see it in yourself. It makes you (or at least it did me) look
at the world a whole different way. Almost nothing dealing with human behavior/thought is as simple as it appears on the surface.

How does this apply to Tacomas? I'm convinced the behavior of my Tacoma's eng/transmission is schizophrenic, but I hold out hope that it can
be fixed with a rewiring of it's "brain" through "software" (chemical) intervention! I'm just trying to suffer through it until I think the software
is developed enough...until then, I remain less than satisfied, hence my vote in this poll. :D

I'm pleased with my truck thus far, but much of my long-term satisfaction will stem from reliability.

I get jealous from time to time of my coworkers or neighbors who paid the same price for their 350hp full-size 8spd+ 4-door truck. I keep thinking I'll eventually be glad that I bought a Toyota versus a Silverado or F-150 once the repairs start adding up (for others).

A lot of folks nit pick the transmission, but save a few rare scenarios, I'm generally pleased with performance.
