I agree. We all do it to some extent but some, um, "younger" members are much worse than us guys who have been around the block a few times so to speak. For example, some who are less than satisfied with their trucks are also paying a max car payment for a lot of years and are probably upside down on the loan. Getting rid of it is not an option financially speaking because they have zero room to take a hit. Now, some of us are not in that situation and if we trade and lose a couple grand it's no big deal because a few thousand bucks is nothing to get rid of a problem.
My point is the guy who is maxed out and upside down is much more likely to be squirming and ranting about a problem than the guy who paid cash for the vehicle up front.

Next is the guy who bought the truck in 20 minutes with no careful deliberation. He was out driving one Saturday morning, saw a cool truck on the lot, stopped by to look and *bang* he's driving that new truck off the lot! It takes a few weeks to sink in that he made a serious mistake, either financially or for his application. This guy is also the one who will rant and squirm over every little thing, real or not, that he perceives to be wrong with the truck. If he would have only did an extended test drive and thought about it first he would not have any problem, but because it was an impulse buy, he has problems. These are just a few examples and how this poll is "skewed."

You made mention about me complaining about the complainers. I truly have no problem with people who have legitimate (or not, it does not matter) issues with their vehicles posting about those issues. They should start a thread about them. It's just when they continually post about the same issues in multiple threads, even if the topic is not about their issues, that it gets old. I come here as an enthusiast to see all the cool things people do with their trucks. Because I have a lot of experience, I also come here to hopefully answer a few questions some new guys have and help them out. But when you click on ten different threads on different subjects and you see one or two guys have posted their problems in all ten threads it gets old fast. I know a couple of guys personally who have a lot more knowledge than I do that won't come here anymore because of this. One is a Toyota engineer too. But how do you help a guy out who just wants to complain? I mean, if you have issues with your truck you only have three choices right? A) You can fix it yourself or B) You can get a dealer or private mechanic to fix it or C) You can take it to Toyota Corporate and see if they can help. That's it! Posting about it one thousand times in a forum won't fix your vehicle. It actually does nothing except give you a forum to express your frustrations.

So yes, if you have a problem, post about it. Maybe someone can help. But after awhile, if nobody can help and you have tried the three things I listed above, then posting more about it is just taking up bandwidth. That's when you need to get rid of it.

And yes, I have ignored more than one person haha.

Interesting post- have you read every post by @hiPSI ?

Also, not meaning to "pee in your Cheerios" here, but I do see the comment about complaining about complainers, and often wonder.....

You hit the nail on the head about maxing out car payments. I was like that when I was younger I learned my lesson and I'm a lot older and wiser now. Since this was my first Toyota i leased it. I got a great deal in the truck 3 year lease 20000 miles a year I'm a happy camper with a sub $340 payment a month no money out of pocket I couldn't beat it. If I decide to buy it out at the end of the lease so be it put some money away put some money down Finance it for 4 years because it won't have a lot of miles on it I work from home so it wouldn't be an issue. I wanted the 20 just in case as a buffer.

I cringe at some people a buddy of mine bought a 2016 Nissan Frontier pro-4x used he financed it for 9 years and still paying over $490 a month. ouch

Your examples don't skew the poll....it's a simple satisfaction poll...the people you are referencing ARE dissatisfied with their truck (for a myriad of reasons). Their votes are accurate. You may disagree with their reasoning of dissatisfaction, but you can't argue that they are secretly satisfied and are lying about it...there is a reason there is a term for "choice supportive bias" and not one for "choice disruptive bias."

FTR, I paid cash for my Tacoma. It was somewhat of a forced purchase (well, forced by my mentality, not literally forced). I totaled my 2005 Tundra and was under the gun to buy something after my insurance provided rental capped out. In retrospect I wish I'd paid out of pocket for my rental another month and did some more extended test drives. I test drove a Tacoma, Tundra and Chevy 1500. City driving (75%) and the fact I like to take my trucks up into the NOGA mountains on some tightish USFS roads for camping made the Tacoma a better choice (I thought). My test drives of a brand new Tacoma in a suburban setting did not allow me to get the full feel of this eng/trans combination and on top of that it gets worse, IMO, as it "learns," so even an extended test drive may not have shown it up.

It is what it is...I'm hoping this eng/trans is a software and not a hardware issue and an aftermarket tune, once fully developed, will sort it out. It's an $800 gamble (I shouldn't have to take...are you listening Toyota?) on a truck that I generally like in most other aspects (aside from the sagging leaf springs on an unloaded 6 month old 2.5K mile truck that has never hauled more than 75lbs). If that doesn't fix it, then it will be gone in 12-24 months (that 2019 Ford Ranger designed in Aus. is looking good...it will be getting an extended test drive for sure if it comes to that! :D).

As far as the people you think are trapped in their trucks and it makes their complaining worse, well, to that I say, try and have a little empathy for them. That's not a great place to be living in with a $600 truck payment on something they don't love, especially if $ is tight. I wouldn't want to be in that situation. If their only outlet is to complain in the forum, then I say have at it. I take the good I want from the forum and ignore the rest as best I can. :)

nope. My tranny shift smoothly I don't notice anything different then again I've never owned a Tacoma before. so I have nothing to compare it against. The SUV I traded in for the Tacoma was a 2010 Pathfinder that thing when it sat over night it would always delay Shifting into reverse or drive

In cold weather with high rpm idle, I'd want that to protect the drive train from the sudden jolt of a 278hp engine.
I had it in my last 300hp '08 GM, never had A/T issues either, just everything else was falling apart.

If it was more than a few seconds, then yes, I'd be concerned and would have it looked at. But if it won't do it after warm up at regular idle, or in warm weather at regular idle, then I have to surmise that all is well.
I never got any TSB's on my A/T, and for sure I don't need any, works awesome!

    Cheers!

Still don't see the need to ignore anyone.

I think that anybody can post something useful, including the members who complain.

I won't engage with a member who is in my opinion incoherent or irrational, and I don't like seeing that on TW. If you shit on others with prejudice though, fair game, accepting the consequences.

Can't really totally ignore people you don't agree with in the real world, and I can just "ignore" stupidity on TW by using my grey matter filter most if the time. Kind of like I do in the real world.

    By the way, TEST....lol
