Same here - two of the main roads I take as part of my daily commute are worse than most forest or dirt roads I've been down. Wavy concrete, riddled with pot holes, or bumps from where they overfilled old potholes. I couldn't stand driving my jeep to work down them.

I chose ADS because of their customer service and coating they applied to shock bodies.

Can't go wrong with either. You'll be happy, pick the most affordable one.

The triple bypass rears is awesome. I love hearing them clicks over bumps. I may have to go long travel up front with bypasses.

    Uh... What?

How did you find this out from research? I've seen nothing of the sort.

Link? Searching "BP-51 Shock Fade" isn't giving me anything.

I'll try to find them for ya.

At the end of the day it comes down to how you use them. From what I have seen on Tacomaworld, most 3rd gens drive dirt roads and light duty stuff.

A 2.0 shock will fade faster than a 2.5 or 3.0. If you a 2.0 is all you need the BP-51 may be for you.

All comes down to how hard you drive and for how long.

To clarify, I'm not knocking them, I was just on the edge of buying them. After discovering some issues, I determined they would not work for my build and application and went with Kings.

Sure, but will anyone (you included, driving over your potholes) ever see that point of fade? Probably not.

Additionally, the BP-51 is a bit more than a 2.0 shock. Sure, the piston is a 51mm (2.0) piston, but it has nearly the same fluid capacity as a 2.5" shock given the bypass chambers, the reservoirs, etc. The exterior diameter of the shocks are like 2.64" or something like that.

For the record, I am totally fanboying out. My BP-51s absolutely blow my old Icons w/ CDC valves out of the water.

Yes, which is why I decided not to get them.

Its not the same amount of fluid, have you actually seen the cutout of a Bp-51?

I have, yes. I didn't say it's the same amount, I said it's nearly the same amount. I wish I knew exactly how many oz each took, but I do not.

For anyone unfamiliar with their size though, here's a comparison shot for reference.

I'm actually curious about the amount of fluid in shocks now.

Are the BP-51s easily rebuild-able, can you do it yourself?

I haven't had to do mine yet so I cannot speak for how easy it will be. I am not sure.

That said, adjusting them for height is a pain in the ass. You have to remove from the vehicle, compress the spring, and adjust with a spanner wrench that's not included with the kit.

Adjusting the dampening is also a burden compared to just turning the knob on King/Icon. For the rear I have to lay on my back under the truck to get access. Takes me a minute or so for each shock, not to including shimmying under there, getting back up, and moving around the truck. With the Icons I could do all 4 in a matter of a minute or so without getting dirty.

All that said, for the price they simply cannot be beat. You will not find another bypass shock with adjustable dampening AND compression for anywhere near the $3,000 retail. If you can get a deal, it gets even sweeter.

And let's be real fucking honest with ourselves here... 99% of the people here get extended travel shocks so they can add "extended travel" in their signatures.

Of course, if money is not an issue, and you want to spring for some triple bypass kings, they're a far superior product. But if we're talking baseline King vs baseline ADS vs BP-51... You're going to have a hard time convincing me to ditch bypasses and 100 settings of adjustment for a half inch (or whatever it is) more travel.

My extended travel is 3/4" so dont expect to see me bragging about it. I got my Kings and the Deavers for the same price as the BP-51s. I was informed that compression adjustments isn't all that much needed and knowing me, I would likely never make adjustments anyway.
