3rd set of key/fob

Took my new tacoma in today for the paint and interior treatment, inquired about a 3rd set of keys. A chipped key and a fob, since our house hold has 3 drivers, need 3 sets not the supplied 2.

However one of the service guys says they aren't allowed to make a 3rd set, why is that?

Confused as to why its an issue to have another key cut and programmed, and a new fob programmed on the 2013 TRD Sport Access Cab of mine.

Anyone know what is the issue if any at all? Or was he just saying bullsh*t?

Only fobs I found on ebay were for 2012, looks the same but not sure that would work.

Dealer said if I lost one of the pairs, new remote, and key would be $110.

The problem is, he doesnt want to make me a 3rd set. Thats bugging me a lot. I also got that factory alarm free/installed today. Between the wife, and my kid sister, we bought 3 new tacomas, and one frs. The guy gave me the same answer for 3rd spares for those as well. Really bugs me.

Is that a good price for a spare set? Why are they refusing to make me a 3rd set? Anyone recommend a local Orange County/California locksmith or other dealer that will cut and program a 3rd key/new fob as well?

Yah this didnt sit well with me. I'm going to ask again on monday. Just bugged me that he imposed a limit.

 

Just tell them your wife lost the "second set" for all your vehicles and you need a replacement. That way you will have your "third set" and they won't feed you BS about this "we can't do third set".

 

I got an extra one from my dealership during a oil change. I didn't say it was my third, I just said I want an extra set. I think I paid something like 120 or 130.

I could see them not wanting to do it for free, but as long as you are paying for it why would they give a shit.

Your dealer is a dip-shit and just didn't want to do it. There is no limit. Get another dealer. Talk to the "Service Manager" not a piss boy or Service Writer.

The tricky part is I found a 2012 remote on ebay, how does one program the remote? And has anyone done this? the compatibility thing for ebay, says it won't work on 2013, anyone able to refute this?

 

I had a third key made for my 2013 when I found out they did not come with valet key. It was part of the sale. Like others sad just tell them you lost a set. On a lot of vehicles you can program a third one if you have 2.

I looked into this the other day at Lowes and the price for the key for a 2008 tacoma was 75 bucks.
