Afternoon all. I am looking for a 3 position switch that will fit in the 3rd gen tacoma short switch blanks. I cannot find one. I need it to be on/off/on as I am adding footwell lights. I want them to come on with the doors, be off or come on when I want them to just like the dome light. I am placing the switch, if I find one, in the overhead panel next to the locker switch. I would prefer one that has the blue illumination like the oem switches have of possible but not necessary as I can't even find that. Any help would be much appreciated.

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
Why not wire them to the switch for the bed lights?

Isn't it a standard size? I'm pretty sure the switch that comes with this $70 harness would work but I could be wrong.

This is a 2 position switch but it may be what I end up doing. It'll be either on by button or on by for, no off. I can work with that though. Thank you. Thanks to all for the suggestions.

    It's an ON-OFF-ON switch.

So I bought a similar switch to the anytime. Basically, same switch but custom design. My question now would be which wiring can itap into in the overhead panel so I don't need to run wires everywhere? I will need a ground, illumination power (illumination only when other dash lights come on) and I will need the power and ground for the doors open. I'm assuming there are wires up there already for these as the overhead has a switch for door/off/on for the map lights. Could you provide the wires I will need to tap for these?

    I don't see why you'd need a ground...
    upload_2024-7-31_17-26-49.png
15 is fused power to map lamps/vanity mirror lamps/room lamp
    22 is PWM ground (dimming)
    14 is (+) illumination
    13 is (-) illumination
    12 is Ground.

So, I'm use 15 (to red) for power source when I want the lights to come on by pressing one button. 14 or 13 (to yellow) for both button illumination. What would I use for the footwell lights to come on when the second button (doors open) is pressed? I know the actual wires at the kick panels for this door switch is a yellow and blue wire.

20240731_200705.jpgThe red wire is the hot wire, black is ground, yellow is dash light power, green is the bottom switch, blue is the top switch.

I believe I can see that this switch is not going to work for what I wanted it to do.

You could get parts and assemble an intercept harness to R44, then you'd have the added footwell LED parallel to overhead switch.

Or even cheaper would be to remove the map lamp holders, remove the copper retainer, drill a hole to allow wire to pass through. Solder wire to copper retainer, re-insert into lamp holder. Run wires to footwell locations.

So I found another switch that is just one push button, 4 wires. Acc, illumination, ground and to the source positive. If I install this switch, could to work as directed, can I just tap a wire from the dome or map light "door" switch and run to the source as well? It would work with doors as long as the switch is set to that but then with the new switch I can turn it on when I need to as well.

    You lost me.
Want you require is the ILE side of the cab illumination circuit.
Fused battery power to added footwell lamps, then to switch (*), switch would control ground. The ground choices are for ON, and for door is the tap to ILE. Problem with aftermarket switch is the wire from added footwell LED would not light the indicator bulb properly since the switch shares the ground to both LED inside the switch and you'd want the switch to dim with the rest of the overhead and dash.

    Here's one way with only a 3 way switch. ON -OFF-ON (ON-OFF-DOOR)

Why not just get the footwell harness that ties it to the dome? Then you get door, off and on by using the dome switch….it’s not unintuitive to have the dome lights on when the footwell lights are on. No extra switch required, just the harness that ties it to the roof console plug. There has not once ever been a time I wished I could turn on the footwell lights and not the dome.

The first switch I recommended will work. There's even a version that has no LED for position select, just for switch illumination. You have to write the seller for it.
Also the pink wire is blue closer to the source, which makes it easier to use for the added footwell lamps.

The overhead switch you'll be adding will control the ground of the added footwells. ON-OFF-Door, where door is the yellow wire on R44, the console connector.
