ther ceramic coating does look like a slightly more dull chrome. My chrome DTLBs were like mirrors so I think those are ceramic. After you install you will be able to tell if they are chrome...my chrome headers are turning purple :D

X2. I have seen the ceramic looking very similar to those.

Freshly installed Doug Thorley Ceramic Tri-Y Headers.

Out with the old, in with the new.
    ...ooh...shiny...

Here's the crack...there was even more of it on the other side. I'll drop it from my rooftop onto cement to see if it'll hold up. Video to come.

Overall, a great upgrade. Didn't really feel too much of a low-midrange power gain, but past 3500 rpms, the headers really make the engine open up.
After the upgrade, all I can describe it as is butter. Nice and smooth.
I spend the time or money if my manifold worked fine and didn't have a crack, but for $200 for a shipped oem manifold with gaskets, vs $350 for performance ceramic headers with gaskets shipped...there's no reason not to upgrade.

Note: I highly recommend trading out the crappy supplied M8 bolts with stainless steel M10 bolts. 1 bolt from header-to-cat sheared on me when i gave it 40 lbs of torque. You don't want that stuff rusting together in case you want to remove it in the future without a damn angle grinder like i had to.

And thanks for all your help, TW!

Those are some nice looking headers! How have they served you thus far? I went with the LCE's and I love 'em!

Could you tell me where you got that intake tube? I want to do the same, while keeping my factory air box. I want to get rid of the stupid rubber intake tube (ribbed for her pleasure). Not to mention all the water traps or whatever those tanks underneath the intake tubing are. Thanks!

The headers were a good investment for a replacement of the busted OEM crap, but the gains were not really too significant to write home about. There was a pickup in the low end, though. The intake was a Downey, but they've since gone out of business. I actually traded the intake out for an OEM intake, since I would waterlog the filter whenever I drove quickly through a large puddle.

Built for maximum low end torque, tooter II.VII intake manifold spacer, LCE long tube header, Injen long tube intake, 2,900 rpm torque peak.
LCE long tube headers make more low end torque than DT shorty try-y's. The DT dyno for their short tube header showed the torque peak raised 200 rpms to 4,000 rpms.

On the dyno, my LCE long tube header lowered the torque peak by 650 rpms down to 3,150 rpms.

I ran them on my 1996 and now run the folded long tubes on my 2012.

    Sure. :)

Because the LCE long tube header is folded, it perfectly fits into space of the stock exhaust manifold. It retains all of the air injection system and will pass a smog test, but it is not smog approved in California and likely will never be. In my opinion this header is a work of art. It yields more torque than any other bolt on 2.7 mod except a $5,000 supercharger, and is far superior to the DT short tube header.

I recommend LCE if you can do the work yourself. Came with all parts and pieces and at a good deal. With the 2.7L don't expect "major" gains, expect "considerable" gains. Give them a call and you can typically get a little better deal than just an online purchase. Check out my build and take LCE into serious consideration. It was worth the money and my time to get the whole system replaced since my catalytic converter went out as well.

With Toyotas, especially if you plan to keep it, are worth while for lasting good parts. The point is to not have to work on them all the time, except when its a new mod. my $0.02

    Tooter,
Yeah, that's a nice looking header, much different configuration than my DT... which I purchased from LCE and went with since it is CARB legal for CA.

I didn't notice any performance improvements at all. Cool with that part but I really like the fact that the under hood temps are down.

I understand. Raising the torque peak from 3,800 to 4,000 only adds a little more pull higher in the rpm range, but the 2.7 is a slow turning industrial type engine that has no top end to begin with. You do enjoy a distinct advantage with the DT in that you never need to take it off for a smog test. :)
