Hi I got a 2000 Tacoma 4cyl 2.7 that needs a new engine. I found one from a 2000 4 runner with a 2.7 but with the coil on plugs. My engine does not have the coil on Plugs it has spark plug wires. Is there a DIY somewhere on how to do the coil on plug conversion? Or a list of parts I need. Any help is appreciated thanks.

I think you would need a new ECU and wiring harness to properly do the swap. The two systems are very different and Im sure use different sensors. You might be able to use the long block with your accessories but the coil swap wouldn't be easy.

Newly rearranged front end, sick Hurst shifter yo gives it lightning fast shifts, thats it more to come.
It would probably be pretty easy to buy the motor anyways and just drill out the dizzy hole in the head if it's still bare metal, or unbolt the block off plate and stab your dizzy in it and off you go. Motors IIRC are the same other then that. Good Luck

I just recently swaped my engine 1999(coil) with a 1998(cap). I just pulled everything off of the new engine and disconnected everything off of the engine in my truck and left it on the fire walls. The only mismatch was the distributor and coil wires. I pulled the cap off as a whole and installed the cover plate on the head and connected the coils to the spark plugs. The truck runs great only 60k original miles but the problem i have is cranking. It takes about 2 minutes of turning over the engine before it actually cranks. I looking for help in resolving the problem but nothing yet. The entire swap took me 2 days.
