Late to this thread sorry.........I have a new to me motor all in one piece with all the wiring still attached. Question is......will it drop straight in or will the oil pan catch. I also have the tranni removed as I'm replacing it too. The doaner vehicle had a rotten chassis but the motor and tranni were very well looked after and half the miles of mine with the cracked head...........Sorry for got to add mine is 4WD

As somebody above mentioned already, there were three versions. If yours is a 96 then it will have a dizzy. If the donor has coil packs, or coil-on-plug, it will not bolt it directly. On my 2-coil cylinder head the hole for the dizzy doesn't exist. Even if you took everything from the donor … engine, harness, ECM … there could be issues mating the ecm and engine harness to your dash harness.

As far as I can tell they are both identical. This is why I went this route. My concern is the oil pan clearing the diff and X Member and dropping onto the engine mounts.

Actually there was one difference but on the Tranni.....The 96 Runner 5 speed had an electronic speed sensor where my Taco has a cable. Figure I can just swap the sensors over. Exactly the same hole/flange.
