Can anyone point me in the direction of a shim kit for a 2.7 3RZ???
My 2004 has 371000 and I recently had to replace the cylinder head assembly. After dealing with a stubborn ECM relearning process, and about a hundred miles of break in, the valves are seating nicely. Now, I have to deal with the ticking noise. I understand the procedure but my question is.. Do I need to measure each one and purchase just the shim sizes I need, or is there a kit that comes with a bunch of sizes??
    Thanks in advance.

Each shim/bucket has a thickness size on each one
Need to measure to determine what size needed

that should of been done by machine shop that worked on head
    Unknown if new/am/RM’d head installed

this is pretty good info vid
But talking about the killer Toyota 2JZ

Purchased new, after market cylinder head assembly from a company in California. Clearance measurements I took were mostly within tolerances. Two or three were a little high. My thought was that once the valves found their seats during break-in things would change. But the ticking continues. I'll have to remeasure and purchase the needed shim sizes individually. I'll probably wait until spring. I hate working on cars in the cold, in my rock driveway.
Thanks for the input and the video link.

Once I went through my measuring process of all the valves,, I was able to figure out which ones I could swap to another location where it'd work and then it cut down on the ones I had to buy.

Ticking is good with these engines, when they get quiet that's when they're on the tight end beyond spec and unfortunately can do damage to the head.

"New" aftermarket heads scare me. That's a huge X factor.

This Is the one I purchased. Copy and paste this item number into an EBAY search. 362841644974 . It wasnt the very cheapest one i could find but it was close. It's been great so far. Came with a gasket kit and very well packed. I took a week off this past summer to install. Along with new fuel injectors, fuel filter, plugs, coil paks, hoses, belts, and a waterpump... while I had it apart.

I am sure it works but I question how long. Not a path I would take but hopefully it works well for you, AFAIK they haven't been around long enough to know about longevity, but they may be just fine.

Yeah I have one of the China heads....5 yrs out.

going back to a rebuilt one that's prone to crack would be stupid......

bunch of you OEM'ers have cracks in yours.......just havent reached critical point yet

I had a china head on my last 3RZ, it worked well but I had it checked for cracks when I first got it as well just to avoid assembling a bad head. That would have been on for 10 years now and as far as I know the current owner still has it

It's good to know that the Chinese heads are holding up. And I am not really and "OEM" guy but I like "OE".

Yeah, the main thing to factor into a purchase of something like this from China is the seller, I have owned a business where we contracted forgings and castings in China and we found they were selling 2nd and 3rd quality components of our design out the "back door" with our name on it. That is my major concern especially via eBay. In this case they were selling castings that had voids/porosity that failed inspection. Now, this was 30 years ago, but it's still certainly a thing.
