unbolt the water pump. I think that top right bolt goes all the way thru. give it a good tap with a hammer.
edit correction: It doesn't. looks like there all out. give a good rap with a hammer coming at the back side of waterpump flange.

The 10mm headed bolts you shouldn't have to unbolt.

It won't hurt to pull it off. Your head needs to come off too though. The head gasket goes from the block out across the timing cover. You can get the cover off but you can't get it back on without screwing up the gasket and having an internal water leak into the crank

Can and should are two different things. It's extremely hard to not wrinkle the gasket putting the cover back on. You get one shot and won't know if it sealed 100% until you find water in your oil. Been there and done that. Just pull the head and do it right, it looks like you've already taken the time to redo the head so don't mess it up now by taking a short cut that can hurt the bottom end.

I don't think you'd get a water leak, but maybe an oil leak if it doesn't fit back under the head gasket well. I never did this, so I don't mean to second guess Snowy. The Toyota repair manual will say to remove the head. Maybe clean the bottom of the gasket and put some old resistant sealant on it.

And might as well replace the oil pump cover o-ring and crank seal while you're at it. You can replace those screws with Allen head type screws just in case you ever need to take it apart again. Those screw heads strip easily.

There are water passages from the block to the timing cover for the water pump that have to seal up just right. If any of the head gasket wrinkles and pinches, it will leak. Scary part is that it will leak internally and you won't even know you are dumping water into the crank.

Since he has oil pan off it's a lot easier to do without damaging gaskets. Slide it in to the dowels then up and in 1/4 of an inch.
Keep an eye on the oil color.

Yes, I woke up out of a dream today and realized this, lol. There is a passage from the block back to the water pump. Isn't there just that one passage? The outlet from the water pump is on the side?

Center holes in the picture are water passages to the WP and thermostat housing
