Hypothetically, how easy would a 2nd Gen engine swap and 2nd Gen trans fit into a 3rd Gen?

Should fit perfectly, but wiring may be an issue with all the new systems or whatever. Better to just buy a 2nd gen hypothetically...:goingcrazy:

Youd be better of buying a 2nd gen and swapping the bed and front end

Buy new 3rd gen, buy 2nd gen with bad banged up body, swap 3rd body onto 2nd frame... Profit??

Anything can be done with enough time and money, that said it probably wouldn't be worth it.

As for easy hard factor, they're effectively the same platform so fit wouldn't be an issue, it would come down to how the different systems played together.

You might have to have two completely independent electrical systems, one for all the 3rd gen goodies and the complete 2nd gen system to run the engine and trans.

Sounds like a wiring nightmare to me.

    :notsure:

If I wanted to get myself into that much of a wiring nightmare I would put an LS engine in the dang thing.

I would have to agree that if I was going go through the trouble that I would go with the Ford 2.7 ecoboost.

Just gap the hell out of the rings, then your problem becomes will it blow the head off from compression?

That low end torque is hard to live without once you've had it. I am still a big fan of the Jeep straight 6. But progress sometimes takes its toll I guess.

Turbos and SC’s on the 3.5 would be a way stronger motor

I had a 94 Cherokee with the 4.0 straight 6. It was only like 180 hp and 230 torque but it felt like a mule.

... According to Wikipedia, yes it's still a 1GR-FE in the 5th Gen Runner, most likely the twin VVT-i version vs the single VVT-i us tacos have.
