The 4.0 V6 is well-known as a "noisy" engine. At idle they sound like sewing machines and a mild clicking- or ticking-type of noise is normal.
Post up a video clip and don't talk too much through it, then maybe we can hear what you're talking about and provide better help.

Hi I post a video of my truck I was wondering if this sounds normal ? When I took the video it was at normal operating temperature .I am not so much concerned about the tick it’s the deeper almost knock that I’m concerned about . This is my first Tacoma I got a few months ago it’s has 139 k for miles any help would be appreciated.

That definitely sounds off. It sounds like an exaggerated version of the Tacoma tick everyone is referring to.

Put the truck next to another second gen and compare.

Or take it somewhere else for diagnosis.

If my eyes are seeing the video correctly you have a hose off on the drivers side - see that open metal tube. I'm old but take a look guys.

Yes there is a metal cap on a hose I have no idea what it’s blocking off ? There is nothing that I can find where it would go ? As for the noise or the taco tic the motor is much quieter when cold the video is with it fully warmed up in about upper 80 degrees and high humidity

That sounds terrible, is that a thing on those? I’d not be very happy if my truck sounded like that, especially if it was new or at least newer.

Dodge Hemi engines are known get noisy with oil containing low quantities of molybdenum disulfide anti-wear additive. The Toyota V6 also runs quieter in my experience with oil containing more moly, e.g. Pennzoil High Mileage, Quaker State Ultimate Durability. For engines using 0W-20, Toyota oil is very quiet.

Wouldn't you throw a cel if it was a manifold leak? I'm having a similar noise, not nearly as loud but really noticeable under mid throttle inside the cab.

I took my truck into a different dealer this week had them check for exhaust leaks . The service writer did not find any exhaust leaks but he did suggest doing a de carbide induction system and fuel injector cleaning. He has a second gen taco himself and he had similar noise after he had gone over 100 k but his was not as loud as mine . He said it help his
so I decided to go ahead and try it and so far it has worked. I still have some noise but it’s what I’ve heard from other tacos!! Also the motor is a lot more responsive I will take another video of motor to show the difference .
