    I'm looking for info.I want to replace the 3.4 in my 03xcab 4x4 with a 4.0.Dealers and other mechanics look at me like I'm from another planet.Has anyone heard of such an attempt?

    I'll bet the dealers techs look at you like you are nutz. Most of those guys aren't custom fabricators for body/frame parts...They are engine/system types.

    Engage Off Road swapped our 4.0L V6 in their Snowplow Race truck, which was pre-1st gen. The truck started out with a 22re, then the 3.4L, now it has the 1GR. Anything is possible

    maybe, but I know their 5VZ was swapped for their original 22re, which only came on trucks before 1995, and 1995 and older trucks are pre-1st gen.

    yea it could be done, seems like a waste though to me. Why not swap a GM ls motor, its gonna be cheaper and make a lot more power. Just my 2cents... a 6.0l from a 2500 would make your tacoma MOVE, do some mild h/c work, boom 400rwhp. Good luck getting that out of the 4.0, if you did it wouldnt run near as good as the LS motor...
