I know all 4.0s tick. My 4Runner ticked but it was not nearly as loud as my Tacoma. Is anyone else’s this loud? It’s really starting to drive me crazy. Seems abnormally loud. It’s a 2012 with 152,000 miles

Does it need oil between oil changes? Any trouble with engine temps? Coolant leak?

they’re loud little engines. Mine has ticked since I bought it 10 yrs ago. It now whines but that’s another self inflicted problem.

I’ve only had the truck for a month. So far it does not need oil. I’m thinking the previous owner used a light oil

See oil cap 5w-30 and use a good filter. I use Mobile 1 syn oil and filter.
You have many options and opinions out there.

    Working on it now....UNDER CONSTRUCTION
Injectors and the valves. Nothing to worry about. If you are overly concerned drain the oil into a sample bottle and send it to a lab for analysis.

FYI 4 runners have more sound deadening in and out of the vehicle.

May be my imagination but my 12 just had the air pump/and valve switches done on the recall and the tic sounds softer to me.
