4.0 V6 Engine Block Coolant Drain Plugs Locations

    Hi All,

    I have a 2009 Tacoma 4x4 with the 4.0 V6. I am trying to locate the engine block coolant drain plug(s). Where precisely on the block are these located? I took off the skid plates and looked from every angle and cannot find them. Any help would be appreciated.

    6inch lift sitting on bilstein coilovers. Lexus is300 studs in front to keep stock wheels, general grabber red letters, nfab front bumper.
    There is a petcock valve at the bottom of the radiator.

    Some say it's kind of a pain, but I flushed mine not too long ago without to much hassle, then again my hands arnt very large. Pushing the drain hose on was about the hardest part.

    Get a flashlight and look over the tire into the side of the engine compartment. They both (one on each side) have little nipples connected to the bolts going into the block. Look for funny downspout/nipple on bolts and that's them.

    Be very careful when putting a socket on these..A lot of garages back flush the cooling system rather then mess with a corroded block drain.

    A few OE parts from fancy trucks
    Personally I'd ignore them, and hope they never rot out.

    A full cooling system cleansing should be able to be accomplished just working with the radiator and hoses. It may take 2-3 cycles, but still easier than fixing a broken block drain IMHO

    I broken block drain would be a nightmare. I like your suggestion. I was thinking about that myself and how one would go about it.

    Dobinsons suspension
    Its not to bad, I just did mine this morning. Passenger side is easy. Driver side is hard to get the hose on, but socket on the bolt not bad. Use an universal joint on the socket. Makes the driver side easier. I also changed the thermostat. The nut closes to the engine is a pain to get back on. At lease for me.
