Interested to hear more from those who did dynamat in the cab.

For such a small area I feel like it wouldn’t take much to do the whole thing.

So this is pretty much it. If there was a way to describe the sound, it sounds lashy. Reviewing the design it appears to be solid metal from the cam lobe to the valve tip. No hydraulics to help dampen the sound.

With a design like that some noise probably means there is proper clearance.

The previous owner was going to the dealer for oil changes (not syn). Usually the dealer blend is the most universal grade for all the cars (costs more if it comes out of a bottle). So I will experiment with some different oils to see if it helps. That and I will add some dynamat when I replace the speakers.

Must be subjective thing. After 6 months of highway droning I bumped my TRD exhaust.

It's a 60 degree engine. That puts the exhaust pulses way too close together...lending to it's drony nature. If it were a 90 degree V it would have at least a fighting chance to have some decent burble...as this nets uneven exhaust pulses.

But 60 degree V6 engines are inherently smoother and better balanced than 90 degree V6s. So Toyota chose smoothness and refinement. Plus the GR engines were originally a modular design. That necessitated that the 1GR be a 60 degree block like the 2GR and 3GRs.
