get a CARFAX you need to know its history, accidents, maintainence/repair records before dropping that money, getting a certain color can be a issue you may have to compromise, I bought a super white truck and I wasn't so thrilled going white but it turns out that recently white is a most wanted color

Its funny tho on the Carfax they don't show everything...my mechanic said a lot of shops don't use car fax. I just sold my truck and a lot of the work I had done on it wasn't in the car fax..not to mention it had a new motor put in it and that wasn't on car fax either. Is there a site that's better than carfax?
im gonna get the Carfax for sure anyways but im just saying they don't have all the history

So, i got the keys to a 2015 pre-runner ACLB brand new with 63 miles on the odometer. My company had just bought new vehicles and this was what was left for me. I was 24 at the time, looking at tacoma thinking "hey those are sweet. one day ill have one" then they gave me this beauty. An upgrade from the 2003 1st gen 5speed (depending on who you ask lol)

Id say about 130 of those miles were put on by my boss (when he drove the truck to the shop from the dealership), a mechanic a time or two and my girlfriend drove it home when i picked bought my personal tacoma. Another couple hundred miles would be gravel/dirt roads. Maybe 3-4 miles of "abuse" (doin 30mph over washboard with worn stock components certainly felt abusive lol)

anyways, i dont get to decide what maintenance is actually completed on the truck, i can ask for things but it doesnt go far. I am at the mercy of some "mechanic" at a shop they use and the poor girl making chicken scratch at our company doing fleet management. So do not think i am purposely neglecting my (not mine) work truck. But she has basically been mine since birth and its been joyous to watch her age like fine wine.

In all of that, out side of regular oil changes at jiffy lube every 5k
Engine/Cabin air filters as needed, wiper blades, the occasional bulb and maybe another small thing or two Edit: Windshields, many windshields

@60k got tires (cooper at3's) Spark Plugs and the rear diff done. (my gf was managing the fleet at the time so i got lucky and got everything i asked for lol)

@120k got tires, front brake job (E rated ko2's lol) asked for spark plugs, diff, etc DENIED but got a new battery because "the mechanic said the date on the old one was bad"

@~150k My ac compressor "failed" and had to be replaced. $1200 per the paperwork i saw. I also assume the brakes were done because they looked like fresh pads when i looked a few weeks later

@192k got tires (michelin LTX) and finally got the rear diff done again

@210,xxx today and... no end in sight lol

I dont want this truck to die, i dont want a 3rd gen, i wish they had let me put a little more love into this truck but... shes 210 and still screams. I dont *try* to blow it up, but i sure as shit am not easy on it. 4k rpm? yeah, all day im mashin that pedal, that truck loves 4200rpm lol

I beat on that truck like it owes me money, but its out of love. I can feel the transmission getting old. clunking and whatnot, it makes me sad to know ill probably only get 300k out of it and if i had been able to do just a few more things to her over the years i could have pushed alot farther than that.

Pictures of my work truck (and of my 4x4) for the TLDR

Don’t just ask for pics. Crawl underneath and inspect closely. Take a pic or small screwdriver and scrape around some. Remember overly fresh undercoating looks good but may be covering disaster.

but otherwise not much goes wrong with these rigs other than minor stuff: hvac fan noise, clockspring, weak squeaky leaf springs....

I work for a Toyota forklift dealer and naturally many of our reps drive company tacomas. We are just starting to phase out our fleet of 2nd gens. Granted they are just single cab 4cyl trucks but all of them have gone 300k plus with just brakes and tires. No spark plug change, no diff fluid change, nothing.
