Awesome! Thank you so much! What year is your 4.7?
Can you do me another favor and take some more pics and measure the length of both bellhousings?

I'm buying an 05 Tacoma with a blown engine for super cheap and it just got a new frame. I want to put in the 4.7 but hope to keep the A750F that's already in there and just get IPT to overhaul the valve body. Guess I'll need the bellhousing and TC also from the donor 4Runner also

What's up with the BA and UD bellhousing? Not sure what that means but I know that both those applications where it says that are the 4.7 V8

I'm not sure where each casting belongs, but it's stamped into the bell housing and easy to identify.

I have a 2015 with no problems. If you can even call it a complaint it would be this. I tend to get all this tree junk in my cabin air filter. Sure It's easy to clean out but it also accumulates in that door jam hiding place that you need to vacuum out. I think this doesn't get reported often simply because people don't know about it, but let's wait and see who else chimes in with the same problem. And for the record, it shouldn't matter if I park 50' ft from a tree.

350,000 miles later, I'd say it's held up pretty well with no major issues

As mentioned the 1GR engines up to 2006 that were installed in these trucks have a head gasket issue. Toyota knew about it and changed the design in late model year 2006 but chose not to recall it. The rumor, and yes that means little, is that Toyota didn't recall those engines because they tend to fail long after the warranty is up. It's on the owner at that point and Toyota knows that.

Also with the 2012-2015 trucks with the air injection system for the emissions system there have been lots of complaints about the electric blower failing. If it fails the engine won't run properly because the truck will remain in limp mode until the problem is fixed. The repair cost is crazy, I've heard $1200 come up a lot, so that sucks.

All in all though the 1GR is a great engine. I'd stick it up there as one of the better high displacement V6 engines made in the 2000's.

They had faulty gaskets in 05-06. They've redesigned them since.

Of course a dirty filter is efficient, all the oil just goes through the bypass. It's as efficient as hell and terrible on the engine lol.

Whether or not it's a cheap fix it's still a problem with the early 1GR engine in the Tacoma. It doesn't make the engine garbage by any means, but it also doesn't make it flawless either.

If you're clogging a filter to the point of bypassing in 10k miles your engine has problems. Most OEMs are running 10k or greater intervals, show me where any of them suggest changing the filter in the middle of an OCI. Honda actually says to run the filter for 2 OCIs before changing them. They can go into bypass if they actually get clogged, but for a filter to clog on one of these engines you'd have to run it a lot longer than most anybody here would be comfortable doing or have a previously neglected engine. It's the same as changing an air filter, all of our diesel trucks have an air filter restriction gauge, you don't change an air filter until the gauge shows that there is enough restriction to warrant changing them. As a filter loads up it is able to catch finer and finer particles, offering better filtration while still providing adequate flow. Some aftermarket transmission filters also use a restriction gauge as a way to tell when to change them. Those have a bypass in the filter head I believe.

    TLDR.

Too be honest man I didn't check your initial comment on the OCI. If you've done testing and it's come back fine then you are good to go. If you haven't and you're basing your argument off of what other companies, who are trying to save money and enviro tax with their intervals on the free changes they often do, are doing then that's just not smart in my opinion.

On my 2013 the amount of oil that ens up going into my Supercharger because of the blow by on a 1GR haunts me. I have no doubts the 1GR, especially boosted like mine, is not the sort of engine where you want to cut back changes without testing the oil first.

Well I used to change oil at a Honda dealership and we changed the filter every time. And it's not about clogging the filter it's that the filter won't be as efficient at stopping small particles as a new filter. That's like saying you can keep your air filter till it's almost clogged and you'll be fine. Yeah the engine will probably run ok but you'd be sucking in lots of small particles and make the engine struggle to breath...
