Im not that worried about it, its a 14 year old truck. Half a quart every 5k doesnt seem bad.

As far as the rack-n-pinion leaking this is common if the truck is lifted. This is due to the added angle which puts more side thrust on the shaft ends of the rack. The frame rust issue is due to Dana holding Corp. leaving out a corrosion inhibitor. From my understanding Toyota outsourced the frames to them to cut cost. Had they of manufactured these frames in Japan and had them shipped it would have cost way too much. Apparently Dana holding Corp. got hit hard from Toyota for the replacement frames.

Ive never lifted the truck, dont know if it was in the past but who knows. The 3 toyotas Ive owned have all had some kind of issue with the rack leaking, dont know what their issue is, no big deal theyve all been higher mileage vehicles. I know the frame is the fault of the actual manufacture but it still falls back on toyota and they know it or else they wouldnt be replacing them. From what I had read toyota hit them with one hell of a lawsuit.

I noticed while watching this video this vehicle got new brake lines all the way to the ABS module. Toyota only replaced mine along the frame rail when they replaced my frame. Hmmmmm???

I got all new brake lines all the way up to the ABS. Hell they even replaced the wheel cylinders on my rear brakes cause they couldnt get them to budge to bleed them. Was that 4 cylinder or v6? I couldnt tell from watching the video on my phone. When I went and talked to the guy doing mine he said they keep the exhaust manifold and y pipe connected. I was just trying to see if thats what they did to this one. I know, getting off topic here.

'05 TRD Sport DCLB 246,000 miles. Original belts and hoses. Frame TSB a few yrs ago. New shocks and leafs with the frame. Was shooting for 400,000. Totaled it here. Slid down an icy driveway backwards a bit hit the bank flipped and seized the engine. Combination of miles and seized engine contributed to the "totalling".

Thanks. I guess the point relative to this thread was that it was running like a champ up to that point. Nothing but synthetics it's entire life, along with the other routine stuff. I don't know why I never got around to the belts and hoses though I do know that I was anticipating addressing them in the near future. I loved that truck.

Before trading in my 06 it had 155k and no issues.
I just bought a used 15 with 45k instead of new due to fear of problems with the new motor design.
Syn Oil changes are every 5k when the light starts to blink. One thing that seems weird, around 3k I can notice a slight drop in power. Does anyone else notice this ?

Tell me about it! I would have taken a new door (driver's door was wrecked) and driven it with the whole driver's side corduroyed if it was an option. But when the adjuster showed me how much they were giving me for it I was like "it's been nice!" Upgrade!!!

well. my engine let go this a.m. 180k. regular oil changes every 5k with penzoil 5w30 synthetic. very disappointed. started knocking down low this am from a cold start, sounded like noise was in the crank or rod area. trying to locate a replacement engine now. all these people i talk to are just jockeys trying to make a dollar. cant find a good reputable salvage yard with a engine so far.

Front main seal was bad on mine at 50k right after I bought it and pouring oil. Balancer was also losing rubber chunks. belts wont stop squeaking. Its noisey. we'll see. At 90k now.

194,000. Noisy engine but rock solid. Oil changes every 5k with Mobile 1. Plugs every 100k. Doing a 3,000 mile road trip this summer to Alpine Loop, Moab, and Mojave. Fingers crossed no issues.
