Regardless I’d still prefer the older Tacomas that are made in the USA and the new TRD pro also made in USA. All The new trucks look nice but arnt the quaility of the 2 gen they are way better built and feel more solid. I do alignments work at Toyota shop and the new third gens Have bad thrust angles were the older trucks don’t have this issue, nor do the TRD pros. I’ve seen brand new Tacoma crab walking down the road. Don’t believe me next time u get alignment check it out the print out The worest I’ve seen is .80 thrust angle on a brand new truck meaning one side has way more toe then the other. The rear axle isn’t straight, witch is not a good whatever they are doing in Mexico the frames aren’t straight plus they wear your tires out faster. u can even check with a tape measure and see that your rear axle isn’t straight at all. Keep telling your self 3rd gens are better simply isn’t the case. And the 4.0 is tryed and true plus u can’t add a supercharger to 3.5

I don't follow the logic of anything you just said, so I won't address them. But just FYI, 3rd Gen's are made both in the US and Mexico, across all trims. JUST LIKE 2nd GENS!!

No offense but I haven't met an alignment tech worth a shit. What you say may be true but I had my truck aligned by several people and they all couldnt figure it out. Now, I will only take it to one person whom I met on TW who actually knows what hes doing.

Don't see any lexus engine problems on here for 3rd gen and not interested in a $7000 engine add on. Most people aren't.
My alignment is good and so is my FRAME.
    Inside is archaic in 2nd's.
I take my truck to a 4wd shop for alignment because dealer usually doesn't know how to align except by what a computer tells them, especially if you have changed suspension parts.
Sold a 2nd for a 3rd and never looked back.
Not one problem in 2.5 years except a battery.

In 2nd gen --- (which don't have this issue ) 'It's a Tacoma thing'

Like I said its the Tacoma’s that come from Mexico and it’s had to gauge older ones because who knows what abuse they have seen but rarely do I see one of the older ones that are significantly bad anything over .20 imo and just because one person had this problem it isn’t like the new ones were they are brand new vehicles and it’s every single one. And never have I seen a 2 gen with anything over .25 personally. I’m sure they are out there but nothing like the 3rd gens. And we are a off-road shop specializes is toyota. And that would be a 7000$ upgrade for you cause u don’t have the skills to install it yourself you can get a brand new maggy for 5k

    Ditto

Might keep an eye out for a really old 2nd gen to build a trail rig out of eventually. But after driving tacomas for over a decade, having one auto second gen, one MT second gen and now a MT third gen, this one has been my favorite.

I've town boats through the White Mountains, and tossed a Miller Bobcat (500lbs or so), plus leads (100lbs), tools (200lbs), 20 gal of gas (120lbs), rod (2x50lbs) up mountains like Killington and others in Maine with no issues at all.

All with realistic expectations though. The bickering of 2nd gen vs 3rd gen on doing work is laughable for anyone that has worked a full size truck.

Quality wise. 2nd gen being rock solid? Just bring up the second gen and look at the top threads at any given time. See what " how to fix _____" thread is up. They've had their issues to work out. But that's all trucks.

This site is different these days. There's a lot more people who can bitch about their truck all day, but don't know how to change their own oil. There's guys that bitch about towing, but never read (or used common sense) that they're supposed to put it in s4 for inclines. There's people who complain about power and never bring the truck up past 3500rpm.

Anyone that owned both knows the pros on cons of both trucks and it is what it is.

    Work in progress...
3.5 vs the 4.0? The only way we are gonna figure this out is to hook em up end to end and see who pulls who. I am interested in watching this.

The 4.0 has more low end torque, the 3.5 has more HP they are about the same at 4000rpm...
    The 4.0 has a 5 speed the 3.5 has a 6 speed.
So one has more torque but, one has a better trans.
The 4.0 will tow at 2000-3000 rpm the 3.5 may need 3000-4000 rpm under most conditions.
The 3.5 is better at down shifting when towing, the 4.0 you have to manual down shift it, I think that's why the the 3.5 won the Ike gauntlet test.

The real advantage of the 3.5 is if you baby it your mpg can go up, the 4.0 gets the same mpg no matter how you drive it, bad.
The new interior is much nicer.

You'll have to drive the 3.5 to see if you like it.
I love the tech of the new engine and trans but don't want to give up the torque of the 4.0.

The 4.0 was only better directly from a stop (the 3.5 is slow off the line) anywhere I enjoy the 3.5 more, especially on the highway. Edit. I felt like I always had to modulate the throttle on the highway in the 4.0 to stay at speed, any slight incline and it needed a lot of input to keep going where as the 3.5 doesn't. The 4.0 needed another couple dozen HP to warrant the legendary hype that's building.

Totally correct. And I am at a stop a small percentage of the time. 18% extra hp is a blast over 2nd gen. It is what it is. Puts you back in the seat. 2nd Gen does not do that.

The trucks I have had -
    94 with a 3.0
    01 and 03 with a 3.4
    06 with a 4.0
    18 with a 3.5
    (add in a 04 4 runner with a 4.7 and a 13 Tundra with a 5.7)

The 3.0 was obviously the worst, but of the 6cyl that I have had the 3.4 was by far the best followed closely by the 4.0. I am not impressed at all with the 3.5.

    Wow, seriously
Really..... Get the OV tune, outrun the 4.0's like I do and it will grow on you... But only if you like faster, more efficient and cleaner burning motors....
