    You get BJ's for $9???

I got a box of 6 1-qt containers at Sam's this weekend for $36. Then I went to WalMart later for something else and they were selling the 5-qt jugs for $27, so I paid $0.60 too much per quart. Oh well.

My maintenance required light came on last night. Do you guys still change your oil at 5K even if you use Mobil 1 synthetic?

After my next change I will be out of warranty, and I plan to do 7500 on dino, and 10-12K on synthetic but only good ones. Not store brands, the additive package are usually not as good

    Hey Guys,
Trust me on this one. I've dune alot of rercerch on it.
Now that I am not putting on alot on miles on my X,I was worried about the drastic difference between the Time vs.Milage change rate for my oil, (Royal Purple).
They got back to me from 2 directions, email/land line.
    12 months or 12 K which ever comes 1st.
    Will be just Fine.

I want a second gen v6 just because of that oil filter drain thing. I hated my oilfilter placement on my 3.4 4runner and I hate it even more on my 2.7 taco.

Fuel line tubing works great and can be found at any auto parts store. Some guys use the old gaskets a few times. I change mine out at every oil change. Talk the dealership parts department down on the price for the filters and gaskets. Buy by the case for the best price and tell them to either match the on-line price or you'll shop elsewhere.

edit: you can also find gaskets cheap at places like Ace Hardware.

Great how-to and lots of good ideas here. I haven't made it through all 30 pages of this yet, but I'd like to add a couple things:

Mobil 1 oil bottles have the same threads as the oil cap on Toyotas. That makes them exceptional for use as oil funnels; they will screw into the oil fill hole in the valve cover. I know the Castrol I sometimes use does NOT, but if you wish to check the bottles of your favorite oil, simply see if the bottle cap will screw onto the Toyota oil cap. If it screws on then the bottle should screw into the valve cover.

Along those same lines: if you cut your "oil funnel" a little shorter than shown in the very first post, it will do a great job of holding the bottle of oil while you go do something else, allowing cheap bastards (like myself) to drain every last drop. Here's a pic (note that my funnel is the old school Mobil 1 bottle, but new ones are very similar):
