Just thought i post this for the hell of it. I drained the oil and put a hole in the filter and waited about 10-15 min's and this is what came out of the filter when i took it off.....Don't need much to catch it!

No need to cut a hole in the filter.... it all drains down anyway. That's what I get without cutting a hole in the filter

I saw the "pop a hole" in the filter a few posts back and kinda made sense so i figured i'd try it. I'll do it again next time without the hole and see what i get...

Is anyone else having this problem? I can't get an accurate read from my dip stick. I thought I put too much oil in after emptying all the oil because my dipstick read 2 inches over full after I filled her with 5 qts of oil. So I re-emptied some out and checked, over and over again until I completely drained all the new oil out and the dipstick still read 2 inches over full. Yes, I did give it a few minutes in-between readings and also started the truck up.

Negative here. I changed my oil about 10 days ago. Accurate readings immediately following and, again, last weekend.

You sure you drained your oil and not your transmission?? Not picking - just asking since it has been done many times.....

I just did my oil change for a 2012 v6. The oil FILL cap seemed to have a washer. I was lazy and didn't take it off while filling and it dropped in the bay and now I cannot find it. Do you need it or can I just use the cap until I can purchase another one?

"Read about dipstick and filed it to help read levels,"

As I have never done my own oil change (2 left in my Toyota care), what does this mean?

The dipstick can give variable readings because the tube has two sharp bends in it, causing oil to get smeared in the tube bore. By roughing up the dipstick surface with a file or sandpaper at the notches/holes, some users get a clearer reading.

Thank you KenLyns for correct answer. I had/have very limited knowledge but had trouble reading oil level and had read about this simple fix, worked for me. Nice to have all these members with great tips and info.

Does anyone also get the drain plug gasket stuck on the oil pan? I have to pry/chisel off the Toyota gasket each time with a pocket screwdriver, which sends the gasket flying. Fishing for the gasket on top of the Budbuilt skidplate takes more time than draining the oil... Anyone tried a Dorman gasket, P/N 095-156.1 or 65394?

Every time. I only replace it less than half the time.

The cup trick worked great. Didn't use a bungee. Just a large solo cup and it fit perfectly below the drain.

I second. Fumoto works very well. Get the locking clip. Extra insurance for a few bucks.

@Krazie Sj is an expert oil changer. This thread still cracks me up, honest mistake, still hilarious though. Not picking on you man, just reliving the fun. Lol

My dipstick always reads correctly on one side or the other, if one side is all smudged, flip it over and it'll be spot on. Same on my brothers 2010 Tacoma.
