would they be easier/cheaper to install? I would be bypassing my CAT converters so im assuming I would continuously have a check engine light on all the time I wouldn't want that

@Ravistae ......there is another set of headers out for the 4.0 with high flow cats attached. They are made by AFE......they look nice, a little pricey at 1100ish I believe. I'd look into them but I'd first like to know if anyone is running them to see how they perform.

$1200 vs DT shorties which would be close to $1000 with parts and labor for welding onto existing CATs

Tacoma headers are pretty cheap compared to the ones I got for my Lexus. $800 for some shorties, with no carb approval, and 1 month lead time so far and I still haven't received them.

Should work out. I still need to install the ones I got back from glorifiedwelder. Maybe I'll get around to it this week or the next.

Okay so I like the idea of the DT Long headers and using the 02 Sim...ECU will not recognize a 02 sensor error and no CELs will come on. Will this installation not require any welding? If so I should be able to install them on my own.

Just making sure this is what I think it is...I understand the long headers are completely bypassing my CAT converters and will not adversely affect my engine and I should not experience any CEL issues associated with this install. NO welding required and I should be able to install on my own all for the price around $600. If all this is accurate I plan on going with these.

Also, I live in Central (not Northern) Virginia. I have never been subject to an emissions test during vehicle inspection. Will the 02 Simulator prevent the emission computers from finding any issues during OBDII inspection?

Dude I live in VA and I've been running DT long tube headers for almost 7 years now. Passed inspection every time. Never a question asked. You need an o2 sim or buy a Bluedriver. I have both. Personally I love my headers. People say my truck sounds good all the time. The loss down low is more than offset from the gains up high IMO. Also my neighbor bought a 2010 Tacoma not long ago and he sees me working u dear the hood of my 05 from time to time and he asked me to show him a few things. His stock headers looked like they were 20 years old covered in rust. Mine still look nice. A little surface rust but worlds better than his and my truck is 5 years older. I think I bought my headers in 2009. Can't remember exactly but they are solid. Good luck with whatever you choose.

On a side note, my Bluedriver will perform smog testing. My truck passes with the headers and o2 sim. Not that I need to but just to give you peace of mind. And I went ahead and paid someone to install my headers. I don't like fooling with exhaust work. Do pretty much everything else myself but not this.

You've now violated one of your first questions. Warranty. At least part of it.

Anything the dealer can point back to being related to the change. The entire exhaust system of course. And the entire emissions system will become suspect in their view.

If that matters to you of course. But since you asked, I figured it might.

I thought I read somewhere it is illegal for the dealer to void your warranty over any type of aftermarket headers...?
