I have been searching on eBay and Amazon for a starter rebuild kit that works with a 2009 Tacoma V6 4.0L 4x4 Double Cab. No luck yet; all I can find are ones that work with the 2.7L engine. I know the rebuild kit is 'probably' interchangeable between both engine types; however, I think the starters themselves are not. The 4.0L starter is about $20 more expensive.

So I wish to get some inside info from anyone who has rebuilt their starter on a 4.0L Tacoma. Were the starter repair parts interchangeable? Without considering the starter removal/install from the vehicle, was the rebuild quick and easy? I would like to buy the starter rebuild kit and just save it for when I need it (I would pay $10 instead of $110).

This is for a 2009 Toyota Tacoma 4.0L 4x4 Double Cab with 86,000 miles. It has a 6" Fabtech lift; I'm hoping the lift makes it easier to access the starter, but who knows!
