How bout a Tundra engine in the Tacoma? I’ve seen that done too.

Now, that would be super bad ass for sure but probably a bit more work and more money for a set up like that... ;)

It's the torque where you really feel it. 3rd gens have more HP than the 4.0 but you have to rev it like a Civic to feel it. The S/C on a 2nd gen adds torque that will throw you back, spin tires to your heart's content, tow without hesitation, and run bigger / heavier tires without always having to downshift. Torque > HP in a Tacoma.

    304 in a mid-size truck is a fair amount. It’s the torque you’re after.

Mine climbs hills at a decent pace and has towing power.

If you want a sports car, the Tacoma is not for you...

I agree with the above comments about torque. The TRD supercharger takes you from 266 —> 334 ft/lbs (26% increase). I was just pointing out that I wish the gains were more for the cost.

Don’t get me wrong, I still want one, I have been trying to justify it for a while :D

unfortunately there is a lot more going on via dyno than peak numbers... i love explaining this.. peak numbers are cool and all, but how about you add the gain hp/tq difference @ each 1k rpm vs non SC'd and see if your not impressed?

I have no doubt that the truck is very impressive with a supercharger. I would just expect more peak gains than what’s published.

You can coax more gains out, but at the risk of reduced reliability. In its stock form and tune without additional mods the Magnuson supercharger is pretty bulletproof.

If you tow - it's totally worth it. If you want to go fast, switch vehicles.

I paid about $4K on a group buy and DIY'd the install.

On average, no. This is because at higher RPMs you're in boost with a supercharger. This is where turbskies benefit.

I have the Magnuson supercharger, 2.85 pulley, Ucon stage 2 with exhaust cam gears. 9.8 lbs is the most I’ve seen on the gauge. It saves peak boost. That was at 17* below zero up in NH though. Normally, it’s mid to high 8s.

I also did DT long tubes, DT Y-pipe, URD 3” cat-back, and high volume fuel pump.

Was it worth it? I weighed my truck at work today all loaded up to hit the trails. 6300 lbs before I sit my 250 lbs in there... Add the trailer to that?

    Worth every penny.

The power feels good with my heavy truck turning 35s. I’d love to see what it’s like in a normal truck.

TRD supercharger really wakes up the motor. If VSC let me i would burn my heavy ass 285/75 eloads through 2nd gear. Runs a lil rich with TRD reflash but better safe than sorry. Probably could lean it out a lil with an afe intake and 2.85 pulley and still be safe. Whats cool is you can do easy mods to these things to make 10+ psi and 400 hp and still be safe on the "am i going to blow up my motor and tranny" meter. ask @12TRDTacoma the pulley guy.

i love all types of forced induction! but turbos on these motors seem like a can of worms, and blower whine trumps an annoying BOV any day especially in something you drive alot :D

True story. I'm smoking Ford Super Duty trucks with real ease these days from a dig at lights using my 2.5 pulley. Once I get it fine tuned I'll be able to run my 2.3 pulley but until I do that, I am more than happy with what I currently have pushing a peak of 11 psi. :)

once on my way up to Tacoma from Eugene, keeping it down to 65mph I got 17.5mpg

Edit: well oops, I just checked my app and it says that I got 19.91mpg on that trip.
