Does Toyota make a supercharger forr the 4.0L?
I know they make them for the 3.4L but i havent seen one gor the 4.0.
Im sure there are aftermarket turbo kits for that engine.
Does anyone have any experience with either setup? What is the highest quality turbo kit, and what type if results does it yield?

Toyota discontinued the trd supercharger, very unfortunate. There's plenty of people on here with experience with em tho, somebody will chime in. Although it'll help to know what questions of them you have.

You can still buy magnuson superchargers, they made the trd s/c's it's exactly the same except no TRD badging.

So i gooled 4.0 TRD supercharger and found my answer ( should've done that before posing the question), but damnit all they're expensive!
Based on the $4,000 price tag I assume going with a turbo system will be a more economical choice.
But, how does a Turbo stack up compared to a Supercharger?
I'm not looking for a 100 hp increase, I simply want an increase of 50-60 hp and some additionalTorque.
Most of all i don't want to sacrifice durability or longevity of my engine.

1st of all, is this a realistic goal?
Will it require any additional upgrades, such as an intercooler etc?
Does anyone know the cost of such an upgrade?

Supercharger gives you more power through your entire RPM range, turbos need time to spool up and create boost. Something along those lines

Turbos typically create more peak power though. Even with a supercharger being active through all RPMs, I don't really notice much difference until I really open up the throttle.

The nice thing about the supercharger setups for our trucks is that they're essentially 'bolt on' in that you don't need to upgrade any other systems for them to work.

That said, it's still recommended you at least upgrade the fuel system 7th injector, afr calibrator, etc).

Turbos to my knowledge require many upgrades to keep things running smoothly.

TRD/Magnussion Supercharger = Bolt on power with no messing around required.

Custom Turbo Kit = Not a bolt on mod. You will spend a lot of time just getting your setup "right" and safe before you can even using it daily.

It used to be that superchargers were better suited for daily use, regular driving circumstances where more power was desired. Turbos because of lag were more attractive to racers. I think turbos have come a long way though in being better for regular use, which is why you're starting to see twin turbo setups from the factory on so many cars and trucks now...

So it sounds like a supercharger is the way to go.
This truck will be my daily driver so the simpler the set up the better.
KISS is a concept i enthusiastically embrace. Not so much the band, I prefer to party all all night and PART of every day. I usually have arrands to run :)

Installing the turbo setup itself is pretty simple. The problem is getting the amount and timing of your boost right as well as keeping everything in tune from the AFR and engine timing end of things. Sadly, because there are no true 100% idiot proof bolt on turbo kits for the 2nd gen you end up spending a lot of your own time and money getting things setup right. Even then your rig is now running a custom setup so anytime you encounter problems you'll have to dig through them on your own from various boost forums. It's extremely easy to wreck an engine with a custom turbo if you don't set it up right. It really only pays off in the end if you are trying to gain maximum performance out of your 1GR. If you are happy with the power offered by the TRD Supercharger and you like KISS, then the Supercharger is the way to go.

Besides, you can gain over 100 HP from the stock N/A engine with the TRD setup with just a few pulley and fuel mods that are basically bolt on.

I've been told that if you use a supercharger on a 3.4L that it is also requires stronger pistons in order to compensate for higher compression rate.
Is this also true for the 4.0L?
Also, what effect will a supercharger setup have on fuel efficiency?
Obdviously ill lose a few mpg, also, I know ill have to run premium with that setup.
Ive heard claims that the higher octane fuel yields a higher mpg. Im hoping that based on this the mpg difference wont be too drastic.
    ???

you dont need to use forged pistons on the 4.0. Just buy a supercharger and fuel management, spend the day drinking beer and bolting it on, and go have some fun destroying your tires :D
