I've never heard this for the 3.4, if anything it'd be the tranny in the long run. That said s/c would be the way to go. Your fuel efficiency really won't change at all, but that all lies in self control on the pedal.

    Good to know.
Although i feel like superchargers and self control are mutually exclusive :)
Does anyone know how much Torque I should expect to gain?

I don't think there is an EMS for an 09+ taco (if you wanted to go turbo setup). It would be all custom which will cost $$$ .. just stick with the sc if you want 50-60 hp.

Can a supercharger be tuned to produce more or less HP?

You can modify its components to put out more like a smaller pulley but these will typically require more fuel to be delivered with a 7th injector kit.

Yeah if you do anything to modify the s/c you should upgrade to the 7th injector or the URD AFR calibrator at least.

I'm running a stock s/c setup with no fuel upgrades and even though TRD says it won't ping, it does at least a little bit under heavy throttle, sometimes it's pretty bad. Always use high quality 91 octane too. I usually go pretty easy on the throttle, until I save up the coin for the 7th injector.

Stock engine with a TRD S/C with add about 50 hp.

Add long tubes, CAI, smaller pulley, aftermarket tuner (URD is working on one for a 2009) and 7th inj, URD Fuel Pump upgrade you can get close to 100 hp.

You could go with an URD S/C and get more power.

I have the TRD S/C and have had good luck with it.
I have DTLT, APR ECU & 7th Inj, NST S/C pulley, URD Fuel pump upgrade, APR Y pipe and URD 3" cat back. I did the install and is pretty straightforward.

    Very very nice!
Do you run unleaded plus or premium?
What difference have you seen in fuel efficiency?

Premium. Any supercharger/turbocharger install will require better fuel.

    About -1 mpg from stock.

Are you able to get 93 from your gas stations? Out here in Socal the best I can get is 91 and I still get pinging sometimes especially under high boost. I rarely use my supercharger much because of it (keep it out of high boost almost all the time)

I live in Texas, aka: the octane state, 89-93 at every single pump!
What do you guys mean by "ping"?
Ive never had a supercharged vehicle so im supercharger ignorant.

Pinging refers to either pre-detonation or spark knock, both of which can be caused by your supercharger running lean or having too low grade an octane in your fuel. It sounds like rattling coming from your engine when you accelerate; kinda like a few small marbles being shook around inside of a tin can. It's a very distinguishable sound, you'll definitely know it when/if you hear it.

A lot of people running the TRD superchargers on a stock setup (no fuel system upgrades) experience this from time to time, I think it's more of an issue for guys like me with the 3.4l engine/setup. I've heard the 4.0l TRD supercharger is better at not pinging on a stock setup.

Either way, running 93 octane and adding the URD 7th injector or AFR calibrator are good ways of keeping the supercharger from causing pre-detonation. Over time it can cause damage to your engine and shorten its lifespan.

I'm really only familiar with the 5vze (3.4l) TRD setup though, I don't know how much more advanced the 4.0l one is and if it requires upgrades like the 7th injector...

Any idea how much those upgrades may cost?

    For the 4.0l it's around $600 I think...

Honestly if you aren't running into lean issues with your supercharger I wouldn't worry about it, everyone's truck seems to be a little different and it depends on other variables like the quality of fuel you're able to get, the elevation you're running at, temp, driving style, etc.

The URD 7th injector must be used with the URD UCONN.

When I did this, I did it in steps. I did not do it all at once.

    1. Headers & exhaust & CAI.
    2. Fuel Pump Upgrade.
    3. Fuel Management ECU (in my case APR X-1)
    4. TRD S/C
    5. Smaller pulley
    6. 7th Injector
    7. Tuning to go along with the pulley & 7th Injector

Awesome, thanks for the info...what fuel pump did you upgrade to? A URD one?

Looking at them now, did you have to use their fuel filter as well or can you use the stock Toyota one? I just had mine replaced so it'd be nice to not have to swap it out again, but I will if I have to...they're pretty cheap.
