Anyone done 4.10 or 4.11 gears in there V6 tacoma with 285/70r17 or similarlly sized tires? I'm putting 4.10 in and a Eaton TrueTrac and I'm curious what kind of MPG's I can expect....I get like 13.5 right now and I think the best I know of getting was 14.5...Damn thing drinks gas.

14 mpg seems awfully low. Are you sure everything is working right? My old blazer with 200,000 miles, a v8, 3.42 gears and 285's managed 15-16 consistently - after I fixed the cracked exhaust manifold.

yeah i have 3.73 gears now and 285s. 14.5 is with nothing in the bed except my truck tool box completely full and i try to keep it under 2000 rpm. i do all the gas mileage through fuelly.

4.10 wouldn’t be much of a gain, 4.30 would be the closet to stock gear/tire ratio. Ecgs sells it now.
Also with the trutrac your gonna love it I’ve had no issues with mine.

I got a set of 4.10 sitting in the garage that came out of the rear of a 2.7 tacoma...paid 100 for the whole third member so I'm gonna give the 4.10 a try first

I'm currently running 4.56 with 265/75r16 Cooper S/T Maxx. I've had this set up for about 2 months now. Going to put on some 285's in the next week or so. I like the extra torque. The way I figured on doing this was I looked at what RPM the Manual Transmissions run at 75 mph...2600rpm. Then I used the Grimmjeeper site to figure out what gear ratio combined with my Auto trans would get me close to that. 4.56 is what I came up with.

I also live at 5000ft elevation so the overgearing and added torque is very welcome.

That's an awesome deal. Definitely worth it IMO.
A local Tacoma buddy of mine is running 4.10 with 285 on his prerunner and loves it.

Yes it’s literally nite an day difference. Granted it’s no locker but the best thing. This is my thoughts on it if I was to only do one mod to my truck this would be in the top 3.
Where I used to have to use 4H I can use 2wd an some throttle an just push my way thru things.

Oh hellz ya that’s a great deal. If you don’t like the way it performs you’ll get your money back really quick or at least have another 3rd member to have gears slapped into while driving the 4.10s.

Not as much is what I’d say. Perhaps some recovery gear like a winch or comealong, snatch block an row strap an some traction boards may be a good idea as well. I lived in NC for a while I know that clay gets thick an deep real quick. But honestly the TT will help your truck tremendously.

    Your math is fraught.
    Stock 30” tires to 33” is a 10% increase.
So is going from 3.73 to 4.10

It doesn’t account for a heavier truck though and more rotational weight of the tire so 4.30 would probably feel more stock-ish but have smaller gear contact surfaces so that’s the trade off.

    I have 4.10 and 285
