I got a quote for parts and labor to do my gears. $850 My truck is lifted 3 inches with 31s. Is 4.56 to tall? Seems a little to me. It’s also a DCSB 4cyl

    A thing or two...
I would say that 4.56 would be too much for 31s. Stock tires are 30.5", so they're not that much different. If you think you'll go up 33s later, 4.56 might not be a bad choice. Otherwise, I'd stay stock or maybe go with 4.30 gears.

If you have an auto 4.56 will be fine, being overgeared is not a bad thing with the 2TR. I’ve got 4.88 with 32’s and a 5 speed, I had the intention of going with a bigger tire down the road but I’ve been really happy with how the truck drives in it’s current state so I may keep the same size tire for a while. Being dcsb you have much more weight than I do as well, so I think lower the better for you. Just my 2 cents.

I have 4.88 with 31s. I have a slide in camper so with the extra weight it is great. Even without the camper on I love how it drives, just lost some mpg on the interstate due to higher rpms

4.56 with 31's is the pretty close to the same ratio as running 4.88 with 33's which is a pretty common combo for a 4 banger.

My 02 DC Pre Runner 2.7 4cyl came stock with 4.56's and I'm running 265's

I'm looking at going to 4.88's , the extra 300 rpms will help when climbing hills !!
