I'm running the 255/80/17 toyo at3 e loads which are about 50lbs according to their website. Been happy with acceleration and up in the mountains too.

late to the party but a tune would be the way to go. You can always swap back as needed. Depends on what you were expecting. The truck will feel a bit smoother and quicker than stock it's not going to give you race car feelings. I had 4.56 and a tune, and I thought it was the best combo I have had even with FI (although the truck got a lot heavier). If you are running E-rated, you can go to C rated or go to a skinnier tire, and that will pay dividends. Just read @crashnburn80 response and just that. N/A tune and 4.56 for me was spot on but could have gone 4.1 or 4.3. The current setup wold feel grate on rocks. Now I am 4.56 with FI and its a nice combo. I may go 4.88's on my next change if it comes to it but that is more considering larger tires etc.

That makes sense, I was considering going with a bigger tire is the main reason I didn't do lower than 4.88.

depends which tire. I held off on 4.88 as I was unsure when. Even with 35's 4.56 has been nice. If you are going to 35's are larger should balance out in time.

500 miles down, I have been a little more pedal heavy since hitting 500. Eaton is pretty nice, I guess my stock LSD was shot. The acceleration is nice now that I'm getting on it, but I think a bigger tire will smooth this out a lot.

I wonder if 4.56 vs 4.88 on 35’s makes a difference regarding auto vs 6MT

It does. Personally have not ran both but the 5 speed is going to be geared differently.

Rule of thumb I got from a lot of folks when I was reading
4.56 (Manual), and 4.88 (Auto) would be similar.

I am running 4.56 now with 35's, and it's been fine (I am also S/C, though).

Most of the calculators with gear ratio will say 4.88's too much some low-end "power". A lot of folks I know run 4.3 and 4.56 but you will see plenty running 4.88s on either setup. 4.56 has been a nice blend of back-to-stock ratio with a tad more to it than stock.

On a 33" tire, truck is really nice. Love being able to chirp tires with my gas pedal. I don't regret the gears. Just wanted more initially!
