On manuals, not auto's (unless it's changed since 2nd gen). Auto's have the sensor at the hub, manuals is in the transmission I believe

I enjoy the 4.30 on the manual tranny. I would consider going to 4.56 with my 265s but 4.88 would kill highway mpg. I already run at 2500 rpm @75mph. If I had to guess 4.88 with 265s would put me over 3000rpm at that speed.

I enjoy it too. Plus if I wanna get going even faster I just drop it down to 5th instead of having to go all the way down to 4th like I did in my civic Si!

4.30 in an auto would probably be perfect with 33's and I would have no worries about reliability using a genuine Toyota gear set.

That would be ideal. Find a set from a MT truck who is upgrading their gears. But that is probably very rare. Could buy from Toyota parts department. But I would guess crazy overpriced.

No BRO-ness to speak of... Well, except Kbro2's
I ran with no TPMS for 3 months just after i bought the truck and swapped wheels. Speedo worked fine.

Someone smarter than I will need to answer the rest of these.

Haven't really dug onto ECU editing on the Tacoma yet, but when I was in automotive machining we used to adjust the ECU for wheel size and gear ratio using mostly LS1 edit from Carputing. I assume there is something in there for that

What are your specs on your truck and tire size for the 4:88's?

I posted this in a thread a while back...I'm running 285/70/17's and also also had them out air lockers in both front and rear. Have added weight of front & rear bumpers, canopy and sliders... All that extra lbs drained this little 3.5L motor... Couldn't be more satisfied with the way it performs now!

That's great to hear, I only plan on running 275/70/17 and don't plan to add any weight so was thinking I would want to do 4:56's. Even without bigger tires or extra weight this truck could use a gear change anyway.

I had initially planned on the 4.56's, but, the difference was so small I opted for more gearing just in case...either way you can't go wrong!

What part of the country are you in and where did you get the install done at?

When they replaced the carrier assembly for mine the service advisor said the parts cost was a couple thousand dollars for the whole third member.

Who did you deal with? I have been trying to get a hold of Carl with no response yet. How long did the install take, cost? I am close by and am very interested in getting a set installed by them as well.

It would be really awesome if someone could put together a kit with 4.30 gears using Toyota parts... Either that or start trolling the junk yards for front and rear diffs
