    My truck is very similar to yours and I also live in WTX, like you said 2 hrs to some where around here is nothing. I just finished my ecgs install and 500 mile break in, I kick myself every time I get in my truck now. Why did I wait so bleepin long to do this, .529's is the best thing I've done to this truck. The way this thing runs and pulls hills now is amazing, I've yet to get it tuned, so I'm sure I'll kick myself over that also, but hey I've now done it and learned. When I build another of these trucks that is the first thing that is happening, second is the rear disc brake conversion, done it and love it also. This mod makes me love my truck agian.

    How does it drive with the gears and SC, pretty peppy?

    Completely different beast. Very “peppy”. Not a Challenger Hellcat mind you but definitely not stock either. And, nearly three months later, not a single gear hunting episode to date!

    Right, will never be “fast”, but nice to have some response when your foot hits the skinny

    Thanks everyone for the info. I will get my 5.29's installed next month - back-ordered just came in. I am still running stock size tires, may go to 33's (32.7) in the future. I live in the mtns of Colorado and pull an off-road camper (3,800lbs dry) and have some added weight to my truck. I did ask the shop that is installing my gears about a re-tune, they said if I had an AT they strongly suggest it but having a MT it isn't necessary. I have always felt the Taco has a good engine and supercharging it would not solve the issues that a re-gear will. Now if they ever came out with a Turbo Charger I might consider it but having to go to premium gas for a few additional HP doesn't seem effective when you still need to re-gear. Thanks again for the info - looking forward to seeing what the changes will be like both on highway and off-road with the camper.

    If you have the manual trans you have lower gears in your trans than us a/t guys, I would look real close at the 4.88's, I have the a/t with 5.29's and a 33.4 tire. I turn 2600 to 2650 rpms at 75mph and 6th gear.

    Thank you for your feedback, believe me I have researched the heck out of it. The main reason for the 5.29 is I live in the mountains of Colorado and pull a 3800lb dry offroad camper (4300 when loaded). The 4.88 would be my pick if it were not for the camper which we use a LOT. We disperse camp in the high country and go over a lot of mountain passes.

    I finally was able to get my new Tacoma on the road!

    But as everyone warned me, the shifting was terrible. Later this month I will regear to 5.29s.

    I was not prepared for how bad this truck is at towing. The gears are so tall my rpm were all over the place. Even my fiancé was confused by what was happening. I had to write my own program to really analyze the shifting. This is configured with 33s, shifting at about 2500rpm, and shows just how much better the shift points will be.

    => might actually use 6th!
