I just got a SR which I would consider a base model. How base is base? I guess with unpainted bumpers

Yes it is the utility trim level. The only things I added were an intermittent wiper stock and an N2 Designs remote starter. It has everything else that "I" need.

I had a 21 4x4 4cyl AC with the utility package. It was great! I took it on trails and beat on it from day one, and when I got rear-ended by a guy having a diabetic episode at 45-50mph almost a year ago (the frame was gone), the insurance adjuster said the truck was a small step below showroom quality. I had added spots, floods, high clearance bumper, remote start I got more than what I paid for it and got an SR5 with a blackout package. The SR was a freaking tank on the trails! I actually tried to get another one, but I couldn't find one that was less than an 8 hour drive away.

Surprised it came with fender flares normally the bare bones have no flares, steelies look great 17's with the fj caps? I love the steelie look but hard to give up my wheels at 17.4 lbs a wheel especially with the 2.7 every lb matters

I put the flares on myself. Yes they are 17's with the caps. I didn't take any hit at all as far as MPG's go.

I can’t see it would make a huge difference since it already comes with steel wheels, there may be like a few pounds per wheel difference at most.

Here’s my 1986 with a 22R that I purchased new, currently at 360,000 and still going strong! Unfortunately had a fender bender back in 2011 but hopefully she’ll be getting some new paint soon.

Hi all. Just picked this 2015 4cyl 5 speed up a few weeks ago, it has 250,000 km’s on it but it runs and drives great. it was owned by a contractor in southern Ontario so it didn’t see much salt but he also didn’t do much maintenance so I’m changing fluids and fixing all the little things that have been neglected and having a blast doing it :yay: So far I’ve ripped the seats out, replaced the driver’s cushion since it was crushed and shampooed everything as it was very dirty. I had to replace the A/C compressor and low pressure hose and just finished refilling the system, works great now. I added the fogs and replaced the front skid plate with a new one I found on Facebook marketplace. I did the wiper switch upgrade and added a rear camera too, both were plug-n-play which was awesome. It’s going to need a clutch soon too, I’ll get that from Rock Auto and do it before winter hopefully.
I’ve owned several Tacoma’s including an ‘83 with a 4” lift and 35” tires as well as many, many other Toyota’s over the years and can only say good things about them, this will be my last truck since I’m retired and plan on relaxing instead of driving all the time
Just thought I’d share, this site rocks and have gotten lots of great info from it, thanks everyone :hattip:

Ah cool deal man, hope you enjoyed the vids. I’ve had this bumper on for about 2 years now, I really like it. Warn, part number 106252.

Yeah watched them some good stuff, not a lot of videos of 2TR-FE doing work. You’re one of the few who runs their 2.7 the way it should. Nice to see the capability, are you still factory gears? Steel bumper, winch, sliders, looks like 33’s? and a topper. I have a topper, lighter wheels, only 265/75/16s with a trd front skid and it’s great around town but 55mph and above it struggles a little. Wanted to add sliders but the extra 120lbs before I re gear I was holding off.

yes, I’m using factory gears. I live in totally flat ground near the coast. No real issues holding 80 near where I live, once I hit hilly or mountain territory the gear hunting issue rears it’s ugly head. The tires in the pic are 255/85/16 , factory steel rims. They’re right at 100 pounds per wheel/tire. They’re my dedicated off road tire, for daily driving I switch back to factory Trd Or wheels on 265/70. I’ll be getting the OTT tune in about another month, from what little I’ve read, people seem to really like it. Not to much info on it on the 2.7s.

I do a lot of towing with it too. Again, does fine on flat ground under 70. Regear may be an option in the future once I get it paid off, but I’m 90% satisfied with what it is.
